Hi
Did you connect the negative battery lead to the chassis rather than the battery terminal?
Cheers

Hi there

Yes, I have the comfort lead connected up. Live to terminal and negative to a body earth, the same one as the battery.

Thanks for confirming. That is strange. It seems that this is not an uncommon issue. I wonder if anyone has any theories?
Cheers

Well, just came across this article in pistonheads.

https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic....8&i=20

Seems I’m not the only one to experience the battery draining problem.

At least that’s proof it’s NOT the D4, but the issue lies with the Ctek mxs7
Thankfully the mxs7 gives a 5 year warranty ...... will be getting in touch with them.

I had a Ctek charger. It had a two year guarantee. At two and a half years (out of guarantee) its electronics went haywire and it overcharged my tractor battery. Battery completely knackered. I had used it only a few times, so not impressed. Now gone back to my old (ten year old) Halfords charger, Max charge 6 amp, trickle 1 - 2 amp. Its charging rate lowers as the battery charges and then trickles to keep the battery topped up. Have left it connected and charging my MX5 for days at a time with no ill effects and a topped up battery.
As you may guess, I am not a great fan of modern electronics. Yeah, I know, I run a D3. None of us are perfect! Embarassed

The main AGM battery of my 2016 D4 (16k miles) let me down Friday. First time I had to go into the office in months. Jumped in the D4 and wouldn't start. Stuck it on charge, walked to work (everything else is on SORN and tucked away!). When I got home, took the D4 shopping and a reasonable run. Stuck it back on charge overnight. Next morning, wouldn't start. Checked the battery with a volt meter..... 11.8V. That just wont be enough!

Eurocarparts - £182 for Exide AGM.

Not tried to see if it starts today

Charged mine up through the towing socket as normal, but only got 12.6v showing at the battery when measured with a volt meter. Connected the Ctek +VE directly to the battery and the negative to an earth point on the inner wing and then got 14.7v measured at the battery, so for some strange reason the charging voltage was being lost from the towing socket to the battery, as 12.6v is never going to charge the battery.

Had a 24v Ctek mounted on my truck chassis, never had a problem rain or shine, but after 5 years of doing it's thing, died after being used overnight when frosty.

I believe it was as a result of condensation internally.

Tester

Just wondering if anyone has experience of one of these low cost battery testers. I thought it would be handy to check up my battery condition after my c teck charge and before I get the usual 'low battery' warning

CAUTION: MY14 vehicles and later with Stop/Start have an additional battery fitted; the implications of this for the hard reset technique are not fully understood

Hopefully there is something for battery reset procedure for the D4 elsewhere? Failing which is the hard reset technique now fully understood?
