low coolant level

Hi, whenever a do a journey of over say 10 miles the low coolant level warning comes on dash. When the engine is cold latter and I check the coolant level is always in same place, ie doesnt appear to be loosing water.

Any ideas?

The sensor in the expantion bottle is giving up the goose-they cost about £2-50, but you more than likely need a new expantion bottle as well - about £30 complete with sensor, the float inside the bottle fails. Better to fit a new bottle as they are a pain Big Cry to fit, remove near side lamp and grill for access. There is one on Flebay at the moment for £17+pp - check your model no. as later models are different.

I chaged mine a couple of weeks ago (bottle including float/sensor) cost about £28 from a stealer.

I managed to change it without removing the lamp/grille in about an hour, but as MaDPO says access is a nightmare. The hardest part I found was getting the coolant pipe back on the bottom of the bottle, there in only about 3cm give in the pipe and you need long arms, thin hands to get them in Laughing

Perseverance pays off though and as being mechanically challenged as I am I was well chuffed that I managed to do it myself Very Happy
