Lower Glove box catch broken! |
|
Have been really happy with my D3 so far but the other day the glove box catch and handle decided to self destruct, a spring fell out and the handle was "floppy", on closer examination I decided I have seen better craftsmanship on a Kinder egg toy! So flimsy and I can't see anyway to repair this myself so think I am looking complete glove box replacement. Has this happened to anyone else?

Not a regular occurrence. I don't know if the catch is available on its own, you will probably have to get the complete box lid.
Perhaps PM site sponsor, and parts guru 'the large one' who is parts manger at Yeovil Land Rover.

I'm now on my third! - all under warranty thankfully, (although I suspect they didn't really change the first one). I think that when a driver leans across to open, the catch gets pulled at an angle which it clearly can't cope with? If you get the top off an open Kinder egg, you can wedge the plastic in to stop it popping open!!! 2005 D3 HSE

Got quoted £80.00 for box lid and then labour. I have got an extended warranty but the box is not covered - humph!

Mine broke whilst away at half term... I have the spring, but has anyone found a way of repairing this? Or is it a trip to the stealer for replacement? As you slide down the banister of life

BTW, how could they come up with a design that cuts yours fingers (mainly thumbs), each time you look for something in the back of it? Happened twice already with that piece of sh it. The older I get, the better I was.

Solution for catch not engaging on lower glove compartment lock:
Had this problem that door wouldn’t stay closed. Rotating lock seemed free and disconnected. Fortunately this means the door is open.
After having no joy removing the door I decided to file away the hard plastic on the door liner that surrounds the lock. Fortunately I’d only got a few millimètres off before ‘hey presto!’ It was miraculously working as normal.
There must be a critical tolerance which causes the door liner to block the engaging tongue.
Hope this helps some of you. 33370 Fargues Saint Hilaire

Glove Box Handle Fixed!!!! Whooopaaaaa |
|
Hi all,
I have a disco 3 2006 TDV6 and the lower glove box handle has always been broken since I have owned it!
Really annoyed be looking at it - still works but hangs low and out at the right hand side.
I read a thread on an Australian site and the bloke removed the glove box, pulled the cover off the front and repaired the handle then glued the front back on and fitted it back to the car.
Well, if yours hangs on one side I might have another alternative way.
I should have taken photos!
All you need is hanging wire, drill, very small drill bit and a couple of plyers.
The only way to succeed is if you can see the broken part of the handle that you shouldn’t see.
If your in Manchester Worsley and come to me I could do it for you? I would need to see a picture of it though.
I have only done this today and it’s working and holding fine.
All I’m left with is a knot of wire on the inside of the glove box, very small and I have covered it with a piece of gaffer tape.
Bit risky but winner winner chicken dinner!
Jonny
