Lower Steering noise under parking conditions for 2005 LR3 |
|
I drove our Jan. 2005 LR3 to the ocean. My wife generally drives this auto. I use a 2006 LR3 for work. If anybody might help on following. 2005 makes a graunching noise during low speed parking. I first thought the tires were the culprit, but on further observation, I believe steering rack (or something in this location) was making the noise. The ignition seems more sticky than '06, requiring some extra turning to remove key. Has anybody run into these issues. Your help is appreciated.

Was the noise when you had the steering on full lock?
If it is then the lock stops probably need a bit of grease, my 1st D3 did not do it but my second did.
Search for a post on here about it as someone kindly put pictures of the bits that need greasing in a thread. Zermatt silver 06 reg.
Gone but not forgotten !!!

Noise appeared to occur with low speed parking and movement. I don't think I got near the end of steering travel. Movements appeared small during steering input. Sound could also come from power steering?

Hi doubletrouble - there is a thread that explains the 'sticky' ignition key, if you push slightly forward from Park, then the key slides out easily Why have I never felt this way about a 4WD before?
