LR Disco 4 HSE Lux Vs HSE Vs Landmark - next purchase |
|
Hi All,
I’m about to finally make my first Disco purchase, and I’ve decided to go for a 4.
I am thinking about going for the HSE Lux - any reasons people would recommend against this?
Looking on Autotrader, there seems to be a plethora of different options - anything I should be looking for, and anything to be trying to avoid?
I’m looking at the moment for as low mileage as possible, and as new as possible whilst staying in the 4 body type. Also want a tow bar of some variety, flexible on which type - thoughts? Happy to travel wherever (within mainland UK) to pick it up and although I’d rather pay slightly more for the right model, like everyone, I’m looking for the best value for money and happy to wait/hunt out a good deal.
As I say, haven’t owned a Disco before - though my Dad’s had one for as long as I can remember (got the 2 at the moment, as he loves it!).
If there are threads already in the forum which you’ve written in, or are aware of which answer my questions - I’d be grateful for a point in the right direction (a search through the forum didn’t provide any generic “what to watch out for” type threads)...
Many thanks all - really looking forward to getting my new D4 ASAP!
Jamie

Depending on where you want to drive it, you might want to consider a Euro 6 version that uses Adblue. An MY16 has this and they started delivery mid 2015. Gary

Thanks Gary,
Really useful- wasn’t even aware of Adblue. But just researched it. Will ensure any car I have included it!

I went through this very late last year when replacing my D3, and found that the spec can change from car to car, so just because it has the badge on the back it doesn't mean it has everything it should, particularly the last of them made.
I ended up with a 65 plate HSE Lux because I couldn't find a 2016 car at the time in a colour I liked.
I'm just up the road in Clanfield, and have a spare removeable towbar hanging around that I'm thinking of selling soon.
Nasher. Heaven doesn't want me, and hell is afraid I'll take over.

Thanks Nasher,
Can you PM me, as I’m not able to yet (newbie limits...)?
Thanks,
Jamie

Welcome Jamie
I too am very local, and look forward to meeting you.
I'm not sure when the change to 8 speed took place, but I defiantly prefer it to the earlier gearbox.
Specifications vary greatly, particularly during the production "run out". I have TV in my Landmark, which I really don't need & have never used!

I owned a Euro 6 2015 HSE and HSE Luxury and they were both superb cars.
Don’t pay any extra if you find one specced with surround cameras; they are worse than useless.
Very little difference between the HSE Luxury and the run out Landmark, apart from perforated leather on the steering wheel on the former and a reduced choice of colours on the latter. The wheels on the HSE Luxury are always diamond cut and only sometimes diamond cut on the Landmark, but they’re a fairly pointless liability on a LR anyway 🙄
No reason not to buy an HSE Luxury that I can think of, although the software control for the rear screens is very clunky and designed to frustrate!
If you are serious about towing look for the OEM version of LR’s proper tow bar. It’s the same thing, for half the price. Let me know if you want me to look out the details. 2011 - 2015: 3 x FL2
2015 - 2017: 2 x D4
2017 to date: FFRR SDV8
2023 to date: FL2 as a second car
2021 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200
2022 to date: Hinckley built ‘14 Triumph Trophy 1200 & sidecar!

Red,
Thanks so much for your response - gives me a lot of confidence.
Once I’ve found the right Disco, I’ll be in touch about tow bars etc.

I echo RM’s posts. I owned 2X Landmarks. The EU6 engines are noticeably sweeter and feel more powerful. 2006 D3 HSE (Original & still the best)-GONE
2010 D4 HSE (A bit bling)-GONE
2014 D4 HSE (Almost too bling)-GONE
2015 D4 HSE (A heated what?)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Written Off)-GONE
2016 D4 Landmark (Surely the last!) PD1881 rims-GONE

My advice would be to look further afield than your local dealers. I bought mine (66 plate Landmark with lots of extras ) in July from Rybrook Land Rover Conwy. After viewing it on a video, I paid a deposit, they shipped it down the following week and I have to say the service was excellent.
Unlike the sales team at Guy Salmon at Cosham who were lazy and disinterested . The service department there is great if you do get one.
p.s. If you see anything that you like at the Conwy dealership get in touch with Josh MY16 Landmark - Yulong White

I'd agree with looking around over the country... I'm Essex based, and looked at one at a local dealer in Chelmsford, but ending up buying mine from Hunters in Chester. Cheaper, much lower miles, and better spec. In fact, most of my cars that I've bought over the past 20 years have been from different parts of the country... the savings can be huge.
And definitely don't bother with surround cameras.... next to useless

Hi Nick,
Thanks for your advice. More than happy to look wherever - will gladly travel to save if the balance of £ is worth it! Best one on autotrader at the moment is near Aberdeen, which is pushing it, even for me (it’s a near two-day trip for me!!)
I’ll have a look at the Conwy site. Have family not too far from there, which makes things easier...
