Warranty Direct lost to Motor Easy

Vehicle: 2010 D4 XS, 70k miles, 15k per year

WD Renewal:
2 years, ExtraCare, £1243.80 - 70% of parts, 100% of labour, consequential cover included, £50 excess per claim. No exclusions for suspension, air con, etc. - Usual other WD terms apply

Motor Easy:
2 years, 'Plan B', £893.75 - 100% parts, 100% labour, consequential cover, £50 excess per claim, no 90 day wear and tear exclusion, independent garages allowed, cover up to value of vehicle

Payable in quarterly interest free installments. Guaranteed terms for both years (i.e. betterment exclusion follows on) - Motor Easy pay garage directly.

WD wouldn't budge, said nothing they could do. Motor Easy called me back 10 mins after dabbling on their site, signed up on the back of the call, and WD cancelled.

I know I've had bad experiences with WD in the past, but money talks, on the call we went through all the fine print and exclusions in detail, so see how we get on with Motor Easy. Interestingly, the chap on the phone was ex WD. He said the founder of ME used to be a director of WD and set up on his own.

Thought I'd post the figures for comparison/for interest.

Hmmm. Interesting. My WD policy (for a MY11 XS with 110k on the clock now) is due for renewal in July.

Thanks for the post Thumbs Up

Is there a criteria for having a policy like that ? I could have saved a fortune on repairs Whistle

I think milage is a deciding factor. I would have loved one but the milage on mine was too high. Thumbs Up

"Warranty Direct ExtraCare 12 Month Upgrade" which is what I was offered by them was shown as going up to 10 years or 100k miles in the schedule. The Motor Easy 'Plan B' cover also goes up to 100k miles according to my schedule.

My advice from today, especially if you're are the border of dropping the amount of cover due to vehicle age (as I am) is to discuss 2 or 3 year cover plans as in my instance, they have kept off the betterment clause etc. over the life of the policy.

EDIT: Forgot to add, as it may be useful, that there is normally no wear and tear cover on the Motor Easy Plan B for 90 days if coming from WD, unless you agree for an independent inspection, presumably at cost (or pay more for the policy). I pointed out that the vehicle has had a 7 year major service and passed an MOT with no advisories within the last month or so, and they accepted that as a basis to cover me for wear and tear straight away, I offered to email proof but they were fine Thumbs Up

I would like to know if anyone claims on Motor Easy. I was pondering over taking out a policy until i read the T's and C's which scared me. But i guess they were the same as WD T's and C's!

That was my thinking. Having tried to claim twice with WD, they can't be any worse.

My WD policy is up for renewal. Motoreasy coming in slightly cheaper but they don't include a hire car. Spoke with WD and they mentioned the motoreasy policy is not regulated by the FCA and is a discretionary policy - ie no one has to make motoreasy cover a claim, even if the item is mentioned in the policy. Could be scaremongering but I don't see anything on the motoreasy website to validate it either way.
Any experience of claiming yet James?

Decision day for me today. Have WD and ME calling back to take the business.

Both quotes within £50 or so of each other. Betterment removed from both and ME offering to include suspension, which WD won't.

ME certainly pro-active when it comes to following up.

What policy are WD covering that doesn't include suspension? If that was the case for me I would be taking the risk with ME, esp if only £50 difference. I need to make a decision myself soon. ME £74 cheaper but I have a few faults logged to be repaired after renewal so worried they won't cover these

WD quoting me SecureCare with Betterment removed and Emissions & Airbag Cover included.

MotorEasy quoting me Plan B.
