was looking to move a boat trailer with my winch last night and after I'd spooled out the plasma rope and connected everything up. i went to winch in and just got a clicking noise from the winch.
Now I was able to spool out with the lever in neutral and then I engaged forward gear and the rope wouldn't come out so I don't think it is the gear box on the winch. There is a noticeable click when I try to winch in or out...... any ideas? An electrician friend reckons the winch motor is seized........
Any one know how to service these things or should I just get a new motor? My winch was originally on AndrewS' Bliue Pearl so it is well out of warranty. 1993 Defender 110 300tdi - many mods

Clicking noise from the winch or the solenoid ?
If you give Martin a bell he'll give you the details for a co in Waterford that repair.I have one in with them at the moment .Sorry I dont know the name as Martin dropped it in for me.
Hopefully its something simple , brushes or something.
