Mate of mine said he saw a Police Disco3 around west London, I've instructed him to carry a camera and get a photo next time he sees it

It certainly wouldn't do the brand image any harm - Volvo were the first to twig onto this big time in the UK, at a time when the UK forces were virtually all Vauxhalls and Fords. By selling Volvos to forces at a loss, they suddenly saw their credibility rise massively - from being seen as a boring car owned by school teachers, they suddenly became seen as high-performance motorway "beasts"

In a number of forums a lot of people partially blamed the demise of the Rover group on the failure of any UK police force to adopt MG Rover cars (though there are some about) - trouble is police fleet managers are under pressure to lose as little as possible between the purchase price and the price the car will be sold to the auction resellers after probably only a year or so, so little depreciation is a good thing (also one of the reasons why you see more silver police cars = better resale value), and Rover has always suffered from poor depreciation figures.

So although the outlay for a D3 would be considerably higher than some of the alternatives, it's relatively high resale values may make it viable for police use. Plus, if LR want to offer any incentives to forces, that would no doubt help. There's also a certain amount of political pressure for forces to support local manufacturers - Bedfordshire Police have had a policy to buy Vauxhall, the Vauxhall plant being in Luton (until recently of course), and you certainly see a lot of police Range Rovers in the West Midlands, so I predict this is where we'll first see any police D3s in significant number.

I’m not too sure about Billing – it’s just you hear all these stories about people with evil intentions “masquerading” on Internet forums and chatrooms, striking up relationships with other innocent members and then enticing them to meet them in shady obscure locations (and that clearly includes Northamptonshire)… No offence, but for all I know you could actually be a Frontera or RAV4 driver

You've got me thinking now....

Good point - I used to think that 'BN' was an abbreviation for 'buys nothing', could it stand for 'brown Nova'?? Shocked

Cheers,

My wife's Galaxy air con has also gone wrong 3 times, but only cost us £500 ish each time.

I thought that was steep until I saw your posts!

Pity I can't say that there have been no electrical probs with it...

Hoping that the D3 will be rather more reliable than that or my old 90. Not many on this board expressing these sentiments!

Keeping this thread way off-topic, my sister’s got a 10 year-old grey-import Mazda MX5 (Mazda Eunos actually), and last summer she took it to a garage to get the a/c looked at – they reeled back in horror when they took a look – apparently the refrigerant in it was some chemical so poisonous that George W Bush would probably invade any country he suspected of having any – she ended up having to have it drained by a specialist HazChem company

Best get us all back on topic

I saw my first police D3 on the A34 at Stone in Staffordshire on friday afternoon 24/6/05.

I followed it up the road for a couple of miles, really looked the part in the usual blue n yellow paint job.
