LR4 Disco 4 Commercial 96k B Service Costs!!

Good evening the collective,

My 2013 Disco 4 Commercial is due a 96k 'B' Service at the end of Jan 2018.

It still has LR extended warranty (which includes £750 MOT insurance) valid until 28th Feb 2018.

I am staggered to have just been quoted £993-51p (which includes VAT but what the heck) by my friendly stealer for that service.

Quote "... it is a major service requiring the replacement of brake hoses. These amount to some £300 of that overall bill".

So the old 'gal is 5 years old at the end of Feb 2018. But are brake hoses an issue?

That's a heart stopping amount of money.............. with only Feb remaining inside warranty (Jan is covered as before the service due date). I am seriously considering an Indie and not bother with the so-called 'approved ' service.

The brake hoses have me curiuous though - even if I go Indie do I 'have to' change these out? Why do I get the feeling that these are not hard to sort anyway.

Going to lie down now Crying or Very sad

The suggested interval for changing the flexible brake hoses is 6 years or 144000 km (say, 90000 miles) whichever comes first.

FWIW, I got quoted €540 - €690 (£480 - £610) by two Indies and an official service center (the highest price) so I would take your price in a heartbeat Thumbs Up I need to get these done on my D3 sometime next spring.

Brake hoses are not due till year 6, not year 10 as I first thought.
Well, that's what the schedule said for a D3 so can't see why it's different on D4.
.........and having checked, it is indeed 6 years. Thumbs Up

D4 schedule is here: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=land+rov...S308LF8mM:

The maintenance sheet for D3 that I have says every 6 years for brake hoses and so does the D4 service sheet Smile

Thank you chaps. As always a rapid response and a wealth of know how.

Sight of the service schedule is a great help.

I think a trawl through the Advanced Factors web site for some bits is starting to look like some common sense. Local Indy worked on LRs for years and had just said on the phone "no problem - change the hoses and the fluids as one operation."

Plus he can do the MOT and is covered by the MOT Warranty (having just rung LR Warranty Customer Services to check an Indie can do the MOT).

Still gonna' lie down 8)

Happy New Year one and all Thumbs Up

I didn't bother with the flexie brake hoses at 6 years on the D4, according to the dealer they were fine as a fine thing. D3 had them changed at 7 years as they were starting to look pretty rough. The D4 has had a really sheltered life, unlike the D3, and that will continue but will keep an eye on them. Thumbs Up

Brake fluid should be changed every 3 years so it does make sense to do it at the same time (you kind of have to) Thumbs Up

A friend changed theirs to HEL braided stainless steel hoses and the comment from the tech was “you can ignore the change interval for the rest of the car’s life”

If the manufacturer schedule is adhered to, then an independent can service the vehicle and still maintain the LR approved extended warranty.
Or also still maintain the manufacturers three years warranty.

What exactly do dealers do for the 6yr/96k service that warrants £640?

Looking over the last B service i was charged £108.78 for 7 units of castrol edge c1 engine oil.

I think i'm going down the diy route - £10 for a wix filter, and £40 for comma ecolife c1 which is the the same spec.
