LR4 fuel pump - after crash, airbag deployed
Greetings All,
Let me start by saying that am glad to be able to join the community.
I'm new owner of LR4 (2015), imported to Europe from US as the requirement was to have the petrol engine.
The problem is with engine start, starter spins, but engine doesn't start.
Feeling is that it's fuel pump issue and that it is caused by the accident mentioned. Airbag has been deployed, but outside of some minor body elements to be replaced, nothing serious did happen (plastic bumper cover, lamp, and hood are to be replaced).
Going through manual, procedure to reset crash signal has been performed as following:
- ignition on,
- hand break on,
- ignition off,
- 15 minutes wait,
- ignition on,
- 30 sec wait (nothing touched),
- no fuel pump was heard, though check was made for any leaks,
- engine start try (starter spins, but engine doesn't start).
It didn't work even if manual says it should.
All what's needed at the moment is to be able to start the engine to let the body shop guys, do their job and then car will be taken to LR specialist. Problem is that the LR specialist is like 200km away hence the aim to avoid unnecessary trip to LR specialist and back only to get the car started to get in/out of body shop.
If I'd find someone with GAP IID or SDD - what should be done?
Or maybe there's a way to identify the problem somehow else? Fuse for the fuel pump is ok - checked already and no noise is heard from the area of the tank.

Well at the very least you could use the IID to read the fault codes

True - that's the reason why I have it as one of steps - just need to find someone or buy it.
Should it be possible to start engine with airbag deployed, not replaced yet? Let's assume, all codes will be cleared via IID/SDD?
What else could it be and how to figure out/exclude one or the other? One of ideas is to short relay for fuel pump? I'm not mechanic, so need to seek pick your brain guys if you don't mind.

Plus 1 ref a code reader , There’s also a basic code reader called an Autel AP200 for just under £50 , as without the codes ur just be chasing ur tail , personally wouldn’t mess around with it or replace anything as u could make matters worse without knowing what the original fault was

Got the codes dumped (SDD) and it looks as following:
B1193-00 RCM - Crash event storage - Full and locked
That is the most concerning one - it is resistant to faults clear.
On physical side, deployed airbag hasn't been dismounted yet, not sure if it's not blocking it. Wasn't sure what's the right order.
Other codes:
B0001-13 RCM - Driver's frontal stage 1 - deployment control
B0002-13 RCM - Driver's frontal stage 2 - deployment control
B1211-13 RCM Driver safety belt retractor pretensioner deployment control
B1212-13 RCM J_14229_DTC_B1212
U0001-82 CAV (no kms specified), date from the past (whilst other are with current date) - High speed CAN communication bus.
Well - this is concerning, thous status is with question mark above the.
And then less important ones (it got hit on the right side - which is weird then it shows "left")
B123A-15 BCM Front left turn signal
B1D64-87 HCM Left headlamp swivelling motor circuit
As mentioned - aim is to start engine and get it in/out of body shop. Once done it will be on the way to LR specialist (far).
It's 2015 LR4 (NAS).
Any good soul to recommend what to do? Happy to pay some for the help/service remotely via screensharing, etc. or just for a good advise.

Think the car shuts down the fuel pump in the event of an accident…to reduce the potential of fire especially being the petrol version…
As to how you reset the pumps I’m afraid I have no idea…

Don’t quote me on this but I’m reasonably sure you need to replace the RCM (restraint control module) after a collision. Obviously the deployed airbags need to be replaced, too, as you rightly note yourself. Same with the deployed seat belt pretensioner.
Don’t worry about the U code.
The lamp motor circuit probably means either cable broken somewhere, test for continuity, or (more likely) the unit is internally defective.

Airbag and belt tensioner for sure - am kind of perfectionist in that area - not willing to play with safety.
Is there a chance to get the engine started before getting the new RCM? Key is to get the bodywork done and then of to LR specialist for final touch and fixes LR specific - that's where modules replacement, etc. was planned.
If there's a chance to get engine started - question is how to force it?
Tried same procedure as OP here and well - same effect.
