Just got back from my free half day driving a RRS. Not the most demanding route but was more than impressed with how capable this car is. On road not as comfy as a D3 (I run 17's) but good in the bends.

Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Been a few times now. Today the 1st time you could see Liverpool, Chester and the hills of Wales. Also bird of prey demo on when we got back, bonus.

Just returned from my half day, Barry sat next to me in a brand spanking D4 HSE. Agree that the course is not too demanding ( would have been happy to do it in my pampered D3!)

It did show me just how capable our cars are though, and some of the extremes They can cope with.

HDC is brilliant.

Feeling sad now as getting back into my base D3 manual after the new D4 ,,,,, I'm trying to convince myself there's not much difference between them.....reality though is I'm very jealous, the D4 is a big improvement, don't care what anyone else says, that engine and 8 speed box is fantastic.

Well worth the £50 I paid for the voucher of fleabay

I've been to Skipton a couple of times, both times I had Will as instructor, really good guy who was very helpful. If you have just the basic voucher half of the afternoon will be spent on a road test and then onto the off road bits. The majority of it is pretty tame but it is designed to let you see what the cars are capable of. There is a little bit of water, some camel humps and if you get to go in the woods there is a log bridge. All in all it is a good way to spend an afternoon Thumbs Up

Cheers, dissapointed about the road bit as I have a pretty good idea what it can do on road as I've had two test drives with the dealers, but looking forward to it ! Thumbs Up

If you explain that you know what they perform like on the road and are more interested in the off road bit they may cut the road test bit short Whistle They told me that because Land Rover pay for the experience they lay down the rules on how it is supposed to be conducted and Land Rover want people to see how good they are on the road.

As stated for the free half day LR Experience, LR dictate the format which must include s short presentation (20-25 minutes), on road drive (25-45 minutes), off road drive. The off road drive should include a demo drive by the instructor followed by guests driving. If you take the maximum number of guests with you it will reduce your own driving time but if you go on your own you could end up being paired off with another guest.
Often surprising how much the on road drive reveals about the cars capabilties, particularly in a MY12.

Went to Skipton LRE last Friday, me and two mates did the afternoon session, had a great time !

The instructer went through all the controls and nearly every single switch/button and explained what it did.

All three of us had chance to see what the car was capable of on road, then we came back to the centre for coffee and a brief chat. Then onto the off road stuff, firstly the instructer did what they called an 'extreme' course to show us what it was capable of (didn't seem that extreme compared to what I've seen online !)

Then we all had a go at a more sedate course, demonstrating HDC, low range box, etc etc

Very impressed to say the least, but could not believe what they should charge for a half day course ? ........£195 each !!

Also learnt quite a bit that I didn't know ie if the D4 when in full height has two more levels that it can extend to if it grounds out !

Amazing, can't wait to pick it up now !!
