Madness or not ?

Hi,

tell me if I'm crazy but after twice test driving the following cars, I finally ordered Disco 3 S 2.7D with airs + 7 seater + couple of other extras.
I've tested these:
- LandCruiser 3.0 D Luxory 8 seater
- Nissan Pathfinder SE 7 seater
- Volga XC90 7 seater
- old ML and X5 (new models not yet available)

last pair to select from was LandCruiser and LandRover D3.
D3 was just SO MUCH better to drive, less engine and wheel noise, better suspension (when works ok..). My wife says that Toyota is better looking but I think it's too feminine, CRV like.

BUT: after reading descriptions of all those faults, I feel horrified. Should I've gone to Toyota as it's bulletproof faultless best seller ?

Clearly completely mad......but you've also made the right choice without any question at all!

I am going to be spending a week off-road with two Landcruiser devotees in early September (both switched from Range Rovers to Amazons, and swear by them). Last year we went places that defeated the Landcruisers - and I am looking forward to rubbing their faces in it with the D3 this year. Last year I had my D2, which was still unbeatable compared to their lumbering, Japanese monsters.

Good man - you jumped the right way.

I bought the new style landcruiser when it came out 2 years ago and at that time I thought it blew away the old D2. Like you I was a little unsure about the D3, but 3 months ago I took the plunge and got a new HSE. Having done almost 5000 miles incluing a long trip round France I can honestly say the D3 beats the landcruiser on almost every count. The engine is better, the air con is much better, the seats more practical, the cabin quieter etc.etc, in fact the only thing I miss are the all round one-touch window controls. also the cruiser had its fair share of niggly faults they are not as bullet proof as people think !

Rest easy you have made far by far the best choice (sorry!!!)

I'm sure you will love it

Thanks

Thanks guys, I feel now that my selection was the right one. Better to have exciting car that has extremely good specs and features when it works OK (> 99,99 % of time, hope so) than car that is dull and noisy always..
Very Happy

Rational arguments how to explain D3 to my wife and friends have been:
- enough space for weekend trips, also on the 3rd row
- towing capabilities (we buys have a lot of SNOW here in north, can get over 30 cm fresh snow into the Lapland cottage over the night)
- feels as silent to drive as the newest 5-series BMW, almost no noise at all

Not publicly saying this to frends but there in mind when concluding to D3
- potentially good crash safety with 2.5 ton body mass
- impessive feeling of materials and design, robust stuff, a bit Hummer like design
- sound of V6 superb compared to Toyota's D4D raw workhorse

Just need to hope that reliability will not let me down and that local dealer guys will not be a$$holes if getting problems.

Having been offroad in the LC5 it was nice enough and capable to most peoples needs, but it took sooooooo much effort, things that the disco wouldn't even notice. AND HOW NOISY IS IT. Sorry to shout but it brings back memories Wink You made the right choice!
