Magnets
Watching something on the tinterweb the other day about resetting the service indicator on a car and I saw someone putting small powerful magnets around a oil filter after an oil/filter change - is it something others do? Any benefits or should the sump plug magnet suffice.

It cant hurt to do it. I use white board magnets which are quite clingy.
I am convinced that they are a worthwhile investment.
I don't have on on the D3, as at the time I bought it new in 2009 I wasn't easily able to source one.
I really should get on with it!

I seem to remember that my old D2 had a centrifugal filter as well as the normal one. I guess that did a similar job?2007 Base D3 - Buckingham Blue

Not sure why these magnets would be any better at attracting ferrous particles than the one in the sump. The one in the sump also has time, gravity and lower fluid velocity on its side too, so not really a fair fight.
