Manual vs. Automatic for offroad

Have just been reading the Offroad subject and I was compelled to see what experience others have had offroad with a manual D3. Most of the postings were HSE use, which I assume will be Automatic?

I have always been an advocate for having a manual transmission in off road conditions. I like the control and ultimatly the enjoyment of being part of the off road performance. The more and more I read about the Terrain Response System and its control of gear changes in the various settings with and automatic, I am just wondering whether having a manual transmission offrides some the functionality of the brilliantly designed system. In other words you are taking away one of its key interventions!

So, what say you, automatic or manual? I can still change my order.

Terrain Response still re-maps the engine for any given setting to give perkier or slower throttle responses.

I also read somewhere that the Message Centre suggests gear changes too or even a particular gear to select... not sure if this made the software though or is just available on the Auto.

Not tried it yet and not had my free LR Experience. Lots of questions to ask them there !

Simon - with trying to get answers from LR to my various glitches with the car, I'd forgotten about the LR Experience course!! Any info on how it is arranged, where, by whom etc? Thanks

You should get a letter and voucher in the post. I did last week.

Car bought 24/12/04

Also you can upgrade it and have sole use of the vehicle (D3) with family and friends too. This is subsidised apparently. Not booked my drive yet though.

Maybe we could try and co-ordinate our dates and venues ? Be good to get some of the UK posters together and ensure all our questions are answered as far as the Experience team can.

I'm up for a Disco 3 forum Experience! I got my voucher last week. Which venue would be best? I'm in Manchester which is pretty central as far as the country is concerned, so I'm easy as to which venue.

Would love a trip to the one in Scotland though, I hear its pretty good, and if it snows even better.

OK... lets see if we can get 4 or 5 of us (if enough on the forum), decide on the best venue and book it.

Scotland a tad far from South Shropshire... but what the heck could make a great break off work... hate emails anyway Wink

Waiting for my tickets - reg 01/01/05, but sounds a good idea althouh time off work is always a problem - just wonder what LR would make of it if they thought it was a disco3.co.uk team effort. With the postings here, wonder if they will quarantine my ticket anyway (seeing as they quarantined the car today!) Very Happy

Excellent idea, although I can not be much help as my HSE will not arrive until April! I particularly like the idea of disclosing the disco3.co.uk team effort, and that a posting will follow the experience.

Perhaps we should start a subject called "LR Experience Questions", where people could, through you, post questions to be answered on the day. I realise it is an undertaking for you but it would be a real example of the power for the Internet and joint consumer strength! Twisted Evil

Poss joint LR experience trip

Guys,

I would be up for this.

I got my car on the 10th Dec, but as usual I am still wating to see any voucher from our well organised friends at LR. Confused

I too had thought about upgrading to the full occupancy to bring some friends along.

My initial plan was to go to Eastnor castle in the Malverns, I am told by all that it is the nest venue.

It is also very centrally located, at least to me and Simon and to some extent for Gareth. Wink

However I would be more than happy to make a proper trip out of it too!!

This one in Scotland looks good, and the promise (perhaps) of Snow is even more apealing, as is a night in a local hotel with a few wee drams eh?

http://www.landroverexperiencescotland.com/

This would probably be cheaper too as I can get a flight from Brum airport to Edinburgh for less than £50!!, so a lot chaper than the derv needed to drive there.

Let me know your ideas and we can sort something out.

Cheers.

Nige.

Sounds like formulation of a plan.

Eastnor was to be my choice too but hey... a night on Scotland's finest would be great.

How many of us are there interested here?. I will give LRE a call this afternoon, and discuss this with them, but an idea of numbers would be useful, as would some possible dates.

I do not think it would be a good idea to use LRE as a target to solve any outstanding problems with vehicles/dealers. They are independant franchises who's job is to give you an experience and a good time. However, I am sure they would welcome a reasonable party of true enthusiasts.

I will find out how booked up they get, and see which days they operate. Fridays/Mondays would be best if it is combined with a night/weekend in a hotel.

I think we have to keep it sensible, as they are probably not equiped with enough D3's for everyone.

My voucher expires 18th April 2005, so we have to get moving on this.

I think that's a great idea and if the diary permits would like to attend. Hopefully I'll have the car by next week but I'm not sure when the offer day information will come through, I'll chase it when I pick up the car.

Gareth,

If you find out how many D3's they have then we can go from there. Which location are you going to call ?

My voucher runs out April too.

As far as problem sorting - I agree its not their job. They may have heard stuff that they may want to share but lest leave it to them to divvy up the info.

What they can do is answer all those off road type questions we have on the capabilities of our vehicles. That would more than do me for now.

I am interested, especially for Eastnor Castle. But if the Scottish site is a better venue....then cheap flights from Birmingham ...
No voucher yet though. Took delivery on 13 December.
I planned to take the £75 upgrade to a level 1 course. Then you share the vehicle with one other and the instructor
