the oztent goanna stretcher bed is ace and i ain't no lightweight trust me and its the first time iv'e been comfortable camping

Get a Thermarest. They self inflate in about 10 minutes, and pack up very small. They are not deep and bouncy like an airbed, but they are suprisingly comfy. Not cheap, but worth it.

I'll second that , they are fab, no where near as good as a American army camp bed , but far better than these cheap nasty little foam efforts

Airbeds provide little or no insulation. Cold ground - cold air in bed. US camp cots are good but can be bloody uncomfortable when compared to a British Army campbed. Buy a thermal mattress.

Hello therso, I have a British army camp bed as well, but I do prefer the us one, but I do agree on the thermal mattress.

not sure on the brand but Costco (leeds) had some of these self inflating camping mattresses in
it was about 1.5 to 2" deep and felt quite firm, I can't remember price but thought they were reasonable

we have a couple of fishing beds similar to these http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/shakespeare-3-...air-p99083 but cost about £80 each i think. they are well comfy and even MrsDiscoDunc who has had several back ops can sleep in them. I have a great night sleep evertime
not cheap and they take up a lot of storage space but worth it if you have the room in the car / camping trailerDuncan

So, after the airbed being trialled last weekend... it works but I can see some flaws - punctures easily and any movement affects the person sharing when applicable. Also the cold does come through although sleeping in a bag meant I didn't notice it too much.
I'm looking at options now including the alpkit but they've got a note on the website to say their SIMs are unavailable for the foreseeable due to factory takeover
Rich - I'm interested in how you get on with those polish army things as two of those makes a double bed area and they do seem very cheap.... not sure about them being "used" though!!
They arrived at the house today, unfortunately I don't get off the rig till this time next week. Will let you know how they look then....
I was looking at these two options originally, but wanted the misses to cover them with a canvass sleeve to protect them, if you are after new they would be the way forward if you want roll mattress'.....
