Michelin CrossClimates

Has anyone tried these yet?

considering a set on my D4, I've had duratracs on previous vehicle and they were very good in all conditions but the loss of MPG and the noise as they wore put me off a touch.

I don't do much off road work - shooting mostly but there's generally a load of others who could pull me out if it goes wrong.

Spend more time towing the caravan, and need a winter rated tyre for the annual ski trip to Austria too.

Not a fan off the Grabbers unless they've sorted the sidewalls out from the At?

Cheers Thumbs Up

A friend of mine has a set on his FL2. He rates them very highly. He used them successfully in the heavy snow we had this January.

Don't know about having them on a heavier car, but if they are load rated, I see no issue.

I'm still running my Conti Cross Contact winters. Seem to be fine in the warm weather!

We have CrossClimates on our old Skoda Octavia estate. They are exactly what you want in a tyre - totally fit and forget. No noise, no obvious fuel use increases, work well in all conditions.

No idea what the SUV version is like - I guess it's just a higher load rating.

As for the point about the Grabber's sidewalls, I doubt the Michelin will have tougher side walls if it's just an up-scaled car tyre in effect. The Grabber AT3 is a much better tyre than the AT in my experience. No road noise as it wears, winter rated - excellent in the snow last winter. As an A/T type tyre, there is some fuel use increase.

You could look at the new Pirelli Scorpion AllTerrain Plus if you want an all rounder that is winter rated.

I'm tempted by that Pirelli at my next tyre change.

Thanks for the replies gents Thumbs Up

Had more of a look, cross climates are £60/set more fitted than the duratracs and start with 7mm of tread compared to 12mm. considering they're meant to be changed at 4mm to retain their ability I'd only get probably 2 years from the climates compared to 4 from the goodyears.

Will look at the At3 and Pirelli too Thumbs Up

I'm on my 2nd set of Cross Climates on my work Passat.
The grip in ice and snow is stunning. I wouldn't consider another tyre for my work car.

I live down small lanes. In the last snow i came home to a queue of cars taking it in turns to try to get up the hill opposite. All were failing.
Just for fun i thought i would try, and to my amazement (and the gathered crowd) it went straight up and back down again with no wheel slip! Pleased with that Smile

Had them on the previous car (Discovery Sport) and was well pleased with all year performance , would have put them on the D4 but weren't available this time last year .

Well I’ve had 4 crossclimates fitted to swmbo’s focus this evening at Costco so will see how they perform! Might be a few weeks yet before the snow and ice testing! Laughing
