Don't see much use on an off road vehicle, as potentially "the tyre" will just fill with mud. Confused

On vehicles in 2024 ....whether they will have sidewalls? I guess it's feasible.

thats a very square edge to the "tyre" - no shoulder at all. I would have thought they would pull and push the car all over the place given the state of our roads

Also the issue of in larger vehicles such as ours, when loading to max weight you are advised to increase tyre pressures.

Will this tyre provide the comfort of a tyre of a 2500kg vehicle at 32psi and the stability of a tyre of a vehicle at 3500kg vehicle at 40psi?

Ever seen the trick with blu-tak ? give it slow/low moevment/pressure and it changes shape. give it sudden/extreme forces and it resists.

try it ... make a shape like a WW2 mine and throw it as hard as you can at a wall. bounces back unchanged.


however ... how would you deflate the tyre to get better traction when conditions dictate ? it would be do-able with a system that affected the radial "spokes", but i'm not sure how they could do that.

Of course! Range rover, GL, X5, all of the double cabs are going to suffer the same though...so if this is the future of tyre development then what is the answer?

Or is this aimed at the hatch/saloon market and everyone else carries on?

I don’t know, but if it was the case that this type of tyre technology was only suited for vehicles that are used on the road only, they’d still be a massive market for it.

So your last sentence might be right.

Any point? OK you can’t get a puncture but I think the last time I had a puncture that wasn’t due to off-roading was in the 1990s. It’s bound to be stupidly expensive and the tread will wear out just like regular tyres. I flicked through the vid & saw that you could chuck the car up the kerb, well I don’t do that, and it will save so many million tonnes of material, over the number of tyres produced that’s nothing much per tyre. Seems a bit of a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist, well for my use anyway. Whistle
