My Mickey Thompson tyres have done 30k were about half worn before our last trip.
The tyres had been faultless untill we hit the Birdsville track and the oodnadatta track.
The two rear tyres are almost stuffed with over half the remaining tread chipped off.
The blokes that fit tyres in these remote areas reckon American tyres are too
hard for the sharp stones on our dirt roads...they suggested Bridgestones.
The camper has wide 16" Bridgestones on it and there isnt a chip in either tyre.

On my previous Discos I had 693 or 694 pattern Bridgestones. Experienced no chipping but you need to be aware that there are a lighter tyre. The AT2'a didn't chip on my last trip.

I wouldnt use Bridgestone...they are too soft in the sidewall for my use.

The Bridgestones are light (soft sidewalls) and are good for sand work and normal city and highway use (not available in 18"). As norto commented, they are not good for rock work etc.
