mixing AT2's and AT3's ok to do?

Just got a reply from my local tyre place saying it would be fine to replace the AT2 I shredded this morning with an AT3, and to leave the other three 11 month old AT2's.

I wasn't sure that was such a great idea, but my wallet certainly says it's a good idea. Any thoughts?
