MOT failure - side lights |
|
My 06 D3 failed it's test mid week on the side lights not working. If you select side lights via the switch you get nothing front or rear. However, if you select dipped setting they all come on and are fine. I've picked up a 2nd hand switch and still the same. I obviously can't be 100% sure the new switch isn't faulty, but I can't be that unlucky surely..?
It can't be the fuses or relays, as the lights work, it's not the bulbs either for the same reason. I'm thinking wiring, but unless there are 2 seperate feeds to the headlight unit, I can't see it being that.
Any input greatly appreciated
Cheers

There are two fuses behind the glove box (FS2 and FS4) which are 10 amp these are fed from the same relay

Probably a faulty relay inside the cjb
An expensive and labour intensive fix.
I’ll have a ponder to see if I can think of a work around.

So I would get one of them piggy back fuses. Put it into one of the side light fuses.
Then run a wire from it to the light switch.

So basically I'd be bypassing the relay correct? Would I not need to link to both side light fuses though, so both side come on?

Both side light fuses are already linked.
So I have studied the circuits now.
What I would do is:
1) check the red wire coming out of the switch is +12v when on side light position.
If not check fuse 25 under the bonnet (wiggle it, replace it anyway) and check the brown/green wire going to the switch is +12v
2) The brown/green wire from fuse 25 needs to be a live feed for the side lights to work. If it isn't you need to sort that. (goes to switch terminal 30)
3) If the live feed to the switch is ok, but you aren't getting anything out the red wire (terminal 58) when switch in side light position, then its the switch.

Right ok....I could not get anything off the red wire at the switch, so I checked fues 25 in the bay and it was missing I have put a 10 amp in and my side lights are working now.

How or why the fuse is missing is unknown to me, as is the fact that I never noticed the side lights didn't work. Although it is my wife's car and lights are always on auto.
