MoT requirements - TPMS warning light

Land Rover are struggling to get TPMS on my car working.

It was in for service yesterday; it is still under warranty, but they charged for diagnosis & then allegedly got the TPMS systems working correctly.

The car was delivered back to me last night, and this morning the TPMS system is still not working.

I believe that this would be an MoT failure; if someone could confirm this would be helpful.

Thanks Rich

Hopefully if I stress this the dealer may get this resolved without the usual delay of many weeks before they can even look at the car.

I think LR are going to have to replace either all the TPMS valves or the module (or whatever it is) in the vehicle or both. They really have got to get this sorted for you, it's a safety issue and as such needs to be taken seriously by them.

My concern was what, if any, risk I was taking by driving a car which would clearly fail an MoT.

Since I posted earlier the dealer has been in touch offering to collect the car to resolve the issue. It has been suggested that it may need a few miles to sort itself out; so I have suggested tomorrow afternoon - we shall see.

Your insurers terms will probably say that your vehicle must be roadworthy, I guess to the standard of an MOT, even if it doesn't require one at the mo.

At loss why you had to pay for diagnostic when still under warranty, being a MY16 must still be covered by initial 3yrs manufactures warranty.

Think they may charge if under Land rovers approved used 2 yr warranty but this should only cut in when orig manufactures warranty expires after 3 yr period.

Perhaps a trip further afield and try another dealership may be an idea worth considering. Thumbs Up

Wow this can get expensive then going forward!
When I have had a system on a BMW the tyre fitters stated that they either remove the sensor/transmitters when fitting tyres or won't guarantee they will not get damaged. If you cannot turn the system off permanently it will always fail a new MOT?

I had issues with TPMS on mine, same year as yours, had no TPMS full stop, dealer in the end had to connect mine direct to LR for them to do whatever needing doing to get it working again.

How will a disabled TPMS affect an MOT?

If it’s not active, it’s not faulty...

If the TPMS system is disabled can a tester see that there is TPMS sensors fitted?

My understanding of the MOT rules are, if there is a fault indicated, it fails

If the system is off, and doesn’t show a warning... Then its a pass, yes? Confused

Not sure how much of a safety issue it is, only the newest have TPMS and the older cars aren’t dangerous. However, if it is an MOT failure, then it could leave a reason for your insurer to not to pay out in full.

Thanks Disco_Mikey.

OK - so if the system is off it doesn’t show a warning...

How please does one disable the system? Is there a fuse to pull, or something I can do with my IID tool?
