I'm not sure that this is a rule.

Anyone can see my registration when I am driving, and when I am parked.

If you wish to know my registrations they are: NJS5, NJS15 & 330EHY.

Neil Shackell has NS 26, NS77 (which I owned some years ago) belongs(ed) to Nick Smith.

I see no reason to obscure any registration number; maybe it's Political Correctness - Prince Charles drives EBY 776J, an Aston Martin DB6 Volante Vantage Manual, Short Chassis.

You have given your reg of your own free will, and as you ask, no, I'm not interested in knowing them thanks, best let Neil Shackell (who?) as well as Nick Smith (who?) know that you are touting their details on this forum...how bizarre you should do that?

However the guidelines - first post of 'spotted' thread - are there for a reason surely DG?

Some folks may not want there whereabouts displayed on a public forum - hence the guidelines - it's common courtesy on a lot of forums..

I would never display someones full reg during spots, as per this forums guidlines.

Rules, guidlines, etiquette, courtesy, call it whatever you want, but the first post makes it clear, don't print the full number, simple as.

I would not do it. Just saying.

For what it's worth, I think it's foolish to broadcast your reg number + car details, type, colour etc. over the internet, especially on an owners forum such as this AND especially because the vehicles are now of the value where a few people with lower morals about insurance and road tax can acquire one.

If I was one of those types, had acquired an early D3 but couldn't stretch to insurance and fancied taking my chances, I suspect, to avoid the attention of ANPR and the local plod, a false plate bought from eBay with a number on it that I know is a D3, similar colour and very likely to be insured, taxed and MOT'd would suffice.

I'm not having a poke at anyone because some people don't see or aren't bothered about the potential risk but for me, well, I've never knowingly posted a pic of my reg because I don't fancy getting speeding and parking tickets from some area I've never visited at the other end of the country. Rolling Eyes
I appreciate we drive around with our reg numbers on display but if I wanted a clone, all the reg details a dishonest person requires are openly posted for the whole world to see so just think it prudent to be careful.

Guidelines differ from rules,it is a recommendation and of course anyone personally concerned can either ask for an edit via the OP or press the red triangle for assistance from mods.

Spotted Partial Reg...

In G4 World, posting a partial reg would be pointless in identifying a user as most of the 68 D3's start BG08, BD08 or BT08 so you'd need a bit more to see who it was...

The vast majority of vehicles for sale on internet sites are showing their registration plates.
Essential, in my opinion, for older vehicles as it allows you to check their MOT history.

My plate pretty explicitly spells out my name, so probably wouldn’t be an ideal plate to clone... does anyone have any experience of this actually happening?

Its not as common as people think, Manchester Police deal with about 1 case a week, North Wales say they dont see it as a major issue, the Met says its "rare".
