Motion Sickness
Thank you to all who provided me with responses to my last post, re purchasing a D3. I test drove both the V8 and TD this weekend and was most impressed, particularly with the TD.
My family consists of 1 wife and 2 children (10yrs and 8 yrs). After completing the first drive (part of which was through the Adelaide Hills) both children, who were seated in row 2, complained of motion sickness and were reluctant to venture out for a second journey.
Clearly 4wds exhibit greater body roll and bounce than conventional sedans (my wife presently drives a Holden Calais). I previously indicated we are 4wd novices and we have no expectations that these 2 styles of vehicles share fundamental similarities.
Is the motion sickness issue atypical or have other owners experienced this problem? If so, do I expect my offspring will adapt to the style of ride offerd by the D3?

It is a characteritic, my kids used to get a bit sick in row 3 on long journeys, but not row 2.
They have got used to it now, and anyway, they would get sick in any car!
It has not been a big problem for us.

Nothing a DVD screen & PS2 won't fix!
PS Got 2 puppies, no kids. They were constantly sick in wife's Jazz but fine in Discovery 2 and Discovery 3. Now officially discerning mutts!
both my wife and children suffered terrible motionn sickness in our Volvo, but we have had no such problemes in the TDV6... did you test drive the coil or air version? as the coil version may have more body roll??

The D3 definitely has more body roll than the D2 equipped with cornering enhancement. My travel sick prone family and very sensitive friend have, however, not complained of travel sickness since the D3 purchase. The D2 was a nightmare (a few too many near misses!).
It seems there is a little less body roll since the enhancement was completed on mine last week.2008.5 D3 HSE, Stornoway, Ebony

It's good to hear there is less body roll on "enhanced" vehicles. Has there also been an improvement in pitch/dive under braking?

Did you have the air on to the second row?? I took someone in the second row of mine who was prone to motion sickness, but they had no problems.
Was it coil sprung or air?Have a nice day!

My kids love the back seats - never had any dreaded liquid spalsh moments
If, however, you do suffer a boiling hot satturated solution of Bi-carb and water gets rid of the smell - guaranteed - I know from personal experience few years back in my 2 month old BMW......Now Golf GTI PP, 7 speed DSG.

Coil or air?
The D3 came equipped with air supsension.
I will test drive again, over a longer period of time and also take on board the suggestion re circulating fresh air............my children think the suggestion re DVD and PS2 is outstanding and promised me they would never suffer motion sickness if I agree to provide screen technology.

Dont believe the little darlings - physiology is an amazing thing and if they are susceptible to travel sickness this may make it worse.
Might I suggest a trial in a Heath Robinson fashion before you invest mega bucks. Lash up a laptop with a DVD player and a headphone splitter and it will only cost you the 12v laptop adapter.
Sit them down on a longish journey with the above, a film that you know they love and, of course, a couple of sick bags.2008.5 D3 HSE, Stornoway, Ebony

Hey Edd, I'm on a kickback from the kids! Besides all that sounds too much like "cruel & unusual", if not too complicated.

Cruel, Moi?
It's a piece of cake and my kids love it. I used it as a test before investing in the bells & whistles built in system. Thing is they now use 2 old work laptops and when they aren't watching they use it as an MP3 player through the AUX socket - mixing their own playlists 8) Hours of fun for all the family, cheap as chips too.
I will agree with you on one realy hard thing to get - a decent sickbag. Never trust a supermarket carrier bag.2008.5 D3 HSE, Stornoway, Ebony

I see people use Tesco bags as "poo bags" for their dogs in the park, then put them in their pockets. NOT a good idea. Tone of this thread is heading South rapidly (in intelect not geography for all our antipodean friends). I get the feeling this may get deleted!
Plastic shopping bags are getting harder to get here. Everyones on an enviromental kick. You have to bring your own bags or they'll charge you for the olastic ones and make you feel guilty.
They sell these tougher, long lasting bags for about $1 each. They'd make good sick bags.Have a nice day!
