Who has a mover fitted to their tintent?

Had a mover fitted at dealers on my caravan only to find this mess underneath Shocked



Been given this reason behind it...

"The wires for the mover cannot be cut as recommended by the manufacturer and have to be the same length so to each motor so they work equally and due to the amps the motors draw they cannot be rolled up because they will over heat and cause a fire so have to spread out under the floor to lose the excess cable."

If that was done to my caravan I would be telling them to do it again.

Don't think the install on my caravan was the best it could be but much better than yours.

Who is the mover made by? Contact them direct and ask, either way that could have been much neater, taking back and get it done again.

That looks a real mess. I had a 4 motor system fitted to our new van about 3/4 weeks ago and the installer extended some wires and shortened others, but they are all concealed within black plastic flexible tubing and clipped to the underside. Very neat job, and I'd be taking it back and sending pictures to the manufacturer of the system if I were you. I know you can't see it, but that's not the point

Both motors will work better with shorter cables as less loss across the distance to the motors. The shorter the cables to the power source, the better. Absolutely no reason why they can't both be cut to the same length. Tbh I would have thought the difference between left and right would be so small, that it really wouldn't make that much of a difference, until the battery is getting to the end of its power.

I agree with you Bodsy, the loss on such a short run is very little. It just shows you that there a some cowboys out there.

The only thing is, if the cables are cut, if you want it fitted to another van at some point, you can bet your life that the cables will then be to short. I do know that don't like cutting the cables, but have to admit that the fitting does look a mess. As others have said, both lengths must be the same.

I'm in the process of having mine removed and fitted on another, mine was fitted by Powertouch who did a very neat job.

As bodys says
the shorter the cable the less volt drop . Seems very untidy would you not just work out the longest cable length required then make sure both runs are equal and tidy the cables as req . Thumbs Up

Fitted ours myself, took the wires from each motor to the middle of the van to keep them the same length & then up to the control unit (fitted in the kitchen cupboard right behind the battery). Fed them through plastic conduit & cut them to terminate them at the control unit. As others say shorter cables the better, less voltage drop & lets face it these things don't exactly motor along with full power going to them Laughing As for installation SGH - I wouldn't be impressed.

The problem here is that if you do remove the cable to tidy it up, you leave lots of holes in the floor where they have put cable clips on in a random fashion!

On our new van, the excess cable is coiled in the under seat box and secured out of the way. I did fit my own mover to my last van, its was Powertouch and I do recall seeing something in the instructions about not cutting the cables. It was a while ago now.
