MP3 Playback

Any idea why wont the infotainment playback back some MP3's?

They work on the PC fine in-fact on all other devices but for some reason i get file/folder not available and it moves on

the file im looking at is 254kbps in quality and 7mb in file size, has no drm im aware of or impacts any other device - i dont recall that should be a problem

any ideas

Just a thought, is it variable bit rate or constant? Some devices will not support VBR. The newer the device the more likely it is to support it.

All the music on my phone is in MP3 format and I've only ever had one problem with a certain song in that when it plays it at the end of the song the player wont move onto the next song, I have to do it manually with the steering wheel button Confused

Thanks

Im not sure - how can i tell if its VBR? interestingly though you may be onto something...i noted another track today and its a slightly higher bit rate than the first track i noted - both legally purchased MP3's with no DRM

I'm not sure if there's a simple, reliable way to check. You could try converting the file with something like ffmpeg to create a CBR version and see if that then works. Something like:

ffmpeg -i input.mp3 -codec:a libmp3lame -b:a 192k output.mp3

This should give you a CBR version at a bitrate of 192kb/s.

The ffmpeg site is here.

Thanks

I had a play with Audacity (which i forgot i had and used to use a lot) and it looks like it is VBR so ive converted to CBR and will test it when its warmer!
