navigation system for central and eastern europe

Hi all,

Who can tell me more details about the disco navigation system in the central and eastern european region?

When I baught the car everybody promised that the navigation data will become available soon.

Now it seems Land Rover will probably never cover this area due to too small sales of the navigation system in this region and therefor negative profitability.

The prague importer told me an interesting version: the data are present on the car but the system needs a service code to activate or allow access to these data.

Does anybody knows more details or additional information?

If not, please, everybody in the region, buy massive amounts of Discovery 3's WITH a navigation system installed so that LR will start to sell the navigation data. ...

Thanks!

You might want to look at the answer I gave into that thread : http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic5966.html?highlight=

I am not saying that this is right, but I don't think that Navteq has any data at all for your country...

This search : http://www.navteq.com/ProductFinder?action...;Year=2007 is fruitless... And I know that this is about a Disco II but Navteq does not seem to know that the DIII exists... Sad

Don't hope too much...

The dealer in trutnov where I service the car said our region will probably never be covered.
The dealer in Belgium where I bought the car checked this version in LR UK on my request and they confirmed this.

Not enough Czechs buy a navigation system ON their car. Instead of bying the factory fitted system at huge prices, they buy portable devices like TomTom etc for not even fifth of the price...(and I guess they are right!)

Therefor it will never be profitable for LR to buy the maps, licenses etc.

Seems your dealer wants to keep you hoping...

After having to drive blind during my holiday in Slovenia and Croatia, I find it disappointing that there seems little prospect of LR supporting maps for East European countries. With such maps being available on cheaper hand-held systems, I cannot believe that the licensing is so expensive that LR could not supply the appropriate data.

Just because the LR market is smaller there (and I did see several LRs in Croatia, including a Disco II) does not mean that owners from other countries won't want to drive in eastern Europe.

Great!

I read on the czech D3 forum that a DVD with "Europe" (this means western Europe) with "as a bonus" the czech republic on is available.

If it's only the czech Republic, as I understood, the given price, about 285€ is too high;
- already bought a tom tom of course: for twice this amount you have the complete TomTom with all maps (complete western Europe, a big part of eastern europe and the USA)
- Probably the coverage will be high in the main cities, but on the countyside low.
If it is including Slovakia, Hungary and Poland, it would be great!

Just registred at the czech forum to be able to ask more.

I don't communicate too much with the czech dealership that services my car:
When I think of them in the afternoon, they are gone home already. And they never reply my e-mails. A typical stupid czech company that thinks the customer needs them.
The Belgian dealership where I bought the car might not know about this czech speciality.

Wait and see!

Scotland

We are off to Romania in the summer in the Disco - I have a Co-pilot hand held that will do the roads but it is not up-to-date. So now I can't use the Bluetooth because the phone won't speak to it and I won't be able to use the satnav as it doesn't have the maps......hmmm. What next.

If anyone knows the progress on the Budapest/Oradea motorway or has any any advice on revised roads in the area I would be greatful. Last time I was there construction was going on, but I'm having difficulty finding info as to what to expect this year (except no customs!! Very Happy Very Happy )

funny thing is that navteq has now good maps for CEE but apparently denso (which makes satnav for LR) did not prepare solutions for LR owners, some other guys like opel (vauxhall) owners already have it (at least that's what i've heard)

ps

but u czech guys have at least coverage for your country (the only one from the region)

I tried the same.
This is a standard answer they send out very quickly.
If you ask further, it will take much longer or you won't get any answer at all...

You should write "u Prague guys have at least coverage for your city"
Outside Prague coverage is minimal. Coverage reduces from the west downwards to the east.
Certainly not for me, living near the polish border.

Choosing between a LR disc with no reasonable coverage outside of Prague and a tomtom with 99% coverage (even my private road is on their map), at the same price, I knew what to buy. And the tomtom warns me for fixed radars....
