| Nearly ready to go to Iceland and beyond |

Only a week to go before we hit the Chunnel and drive up through Denmark to catch the ferry to the Faroe Islands and then Iceland. Camel is looking good, with all her mods. Tim has fitted most of them, including changing the air suspension to filthy great springs and moving the spare tyre to a carrier on the back. After a long search we have found a garage just up the road that will fit the extended fuel tank this week. There is half a ton of stuff behind the sofa ready to be packed. We had a great party last night to say goodbye to our friends, Viking fancy dress and very silly. We will be travelling for about the next two years. If anyone is interested, my blog is janetdowle.wordpress.com and I do hope to bump into some of you guys as we travel. Many thanks to all of you that helped us when Camel broke down in Spain at Easter
Janet Mods: raised air intake, dual battery system, roof rack with Bush Pack, ladder and awning, side steps, light protectors, rubbing strips, fridge, winch, replaced air suspension with coil system, extra fuel tank, waterless coolant, spare wheel carrier, external LEDLight, pure sine wave inverter.

Good luck with the trip, and have a safe journey. My wife and I are working towards a similair goal. We've just done the Pyrenees as a shake down, and are off to Portugal in September. Then will be going into North Africa in the next few years etc.
We'll be following your blog with interest.

It would be interesting to hear how the coils work? I have contemplated this swap as well, as I have been caught off road in extended mode, only to have the system throw a fit, and collapse into access mode, completely grounding me. Thankfully with a few turns of the ignition key, the system reset itself but took an age to rise back to extended mode, and I could carry on. At least with coils, you can get a lift kit, and have a more robust system, if you’re off road.

Thanks for the good wishes, guys and good luck with your travels. We aim to go back to Spain and Portugal towards the end of the year, it's a fantastic place and very beautiful.
We changed the air suspension because the coils springs are meant to be more reliable and we want to go to South America next year. You can reinstate the air suspension afterwards. My husband said it was not too difficult to do but you do need a pair of heavy duty spring compressors. Mods: raised air intake, dual battery system, roof rack with Bush Pack, ladder and awning, side steps, light protectors, rubbing strips, fridge, winch, replaced air suspension with coil system, extra fuel tank, waterless coolant, spare wheel carrier, external LEDLight, pure sine wave inverter.

should you consider massive rebuild like that look at D44 Hd spring with +100 Kg fronts and 200Kg + rears around 300 quid 50mm raise so offroad height all the time like on my Kings
got stuck on the frame only once due to driver error

Apparently they were Dunlop Springs and cost £600 plus vat but you might get them cheaper on eBay. We haven't noticed any difference in the ride but of course they are not adjustable. And you may need a wrecking bar to undo some of the nuts and they have to be torqued back up to 300lbft. If you do a lot of off-loading you would do better with something higher. I agree with the height issue, as I always seem to grind the underbody protection. I'm busy with a complete suspension rebuild, with new shocks and airbags on all 4 corners, refurbished arms all with Polybushes, and all new ball joints. All new valve blocks etc. If this doesn't help me off road, then the decision is change to coils, or sell up, and switch to a Toyota.
