No I didn't shut the bonnet and lock it btw.. mea culpa.
It is now on charge but just before I connected it I started it and asked IID what it thought. 98% charge but immediately 105 amps from the alternator and 45% load! Seems a bit odd

Still, tomorrow I will repeat all this using a 100% charged battery and we shall see..

A battery that has just come off charge will have some 'surface charge', this will dissipate after it has come off charge, so seeing a 0.3 - 0.5v drop over a period of time wouldn't worry me.
Having reconnected a fully charged battery, you can then test the battery, we use a dedicated battery tester, but you can test by seeing what the voltage is when cranking the engine over, if it drops below 10v you've got a problem.
Diagnosing that problem is the next stage, battery? Starter? Poor earthing? High resistance on the starter leads? any of which will cause the battery to work harder and show a lower voltage.
If when you're cranking the engine over, the battery voltage stays above 10.5v which is the ideal, and you're battery still loses charge, then you have another problem.
I've stopped using Yuasa batteries due to problems, but found Varta to be excellent.

When I reinstall the charged battery should I reset the BMS?

It had already rested for 12 hours before being read at 12.86v.

Any surface charge effect should have been long gone by then.

So here are the results. Battery charged over night.

Initial reading straight after disconnecting the charger - 14.3 volts
After one hour, battery not connected to the car - 13.3 volts
Connect the battery to the car - 12.5V across the terminals

IID tool connected to do the BMS reset.
Dashboard displays 11.7 then goes to 12 ignition on
IID tool live values says 12.3 ignition on

Can I draw any conclusions from this? I haven't started the engine yet and just closed the doors, bonnet and locked the car

thanks

So the battery voltage running is 15.1 according to IID and the only other thing I noticed is that the fuel guage reading is around 20% higher than before - odd or I have solved the energy crisis!
I will do another reading tomorrow and then some driving to see if things are better

Not really, waiting an hour does not stabilise the voltages after charging.
On turning on lots of current is drawn so voltage will droop.
15v is a high charge voltage if you dont have a smart alternator. I dont know if discos have one.

Perfectly normal, D3s can charge as high as 15.5v for a few minutes after first start up in cold weather that’s why AGM batteries are not recommended but many have fitted them without any problems, I think you are looking for a problem you have not got from the data you have posted.
You have shown your alternator is charging correctly, if the battery is not up to spec on volts or amps you will have a Christmas tree of fault lights and many auxiliary devices not available but will disappear after restarting the engine. Thumbs Up
 It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

I get the christmas tree lights when I start the engine and if I don't then as soon as I put it in gear

Does the battery management software need re-programming to the new battery characteristics? Ie, amp hours, CCA etc? On my 10 year old BMW, you can’t just swap batteries old to new because the software tries to charges the new battery as if it were the old one.
