new boy - a chip - ipod ?

Good evening all,
Have just got my 1st disco 3 last week and have a couple of questions,
Whats the best way to connect my ipod???
Is it worth / good getting a chip?? Have a 05 with 90,000 on the clock. looking to get the mpg up a little without putting to much stress on the engine?

Cheers

Good evening,

If you have no LR fitted ipod accessory, then the following link may be of use:

http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic45496.html?highlight=

With regards to chipping for the sole purpose of better MPG then I don't think there has been much debate as most chip their vehicles for better performance only. I myself have been looking out for posts regarding fuel economy improvements due to covering around 22K / year for my employer, so don't need to rush around if you get my drift. With very careful driving I manage around 38mpg with road tyres and no roof rack. This 'best mpg' figure seems to differ a lot between other D3 users.

Hi leeser23, and welcome.

Others will surely chip in on both subjects, but as far as iPod connectiity goes...

...it starts with your spec level. Do you have an Aux connector at the rear of your centre arm-rest? If so, this may (or may not) be connected to the Aux input on your stereo. If it is, then you can connect using a standard audio mini-jack cable to play your iPod.

More advanced solutions include the Land Rover iPod it. There are a couple of versions of this. The one I have allows connection via a connector which usually resides in the top glovebox. This allows you to change tracks and volume, and it charges the iPod, but it isn't a fully realised solution to be honest. I think you probably also need to have a steering wheel with stereo controls on it to use this though, as the radio controls don't work. You can fit this yourself in an hour or so, as long as you're brave!

There are other more advances solutions too. Some are mentioned in other threads - do a search for iPod on the forum and you'll get a deluge of info!

I have the BAS remap from Pete. His map gives very smooth power delivery so smaller throttle inputs give as much grunt. This should give better mpg if you can resist putting your foot down.

Might be worth fitting egr blank kit as well. Combination of both will defo give better economy. I amgetting 3-4 mpg more on longer journeys, about the same as before round town.

Sorry for the lack of info its all new to me,

I have a 2.7 tdi hse
I tried the aux but you have to have the volume right up and I dont like the idea of it ipod out.
Found a post on here and somebody had fitted the ipod under the center consol but that looks alot of work!!!!

As for the chip my main worry was the stress on the engine but it sounds you guys have all done it?? Can anybody recommend on or where to get on from I,am based in Reading

Thanks for advise all

"EGR" stands for "Exhaust Gas Recirculation". Basically, your D3 has pipes that recycle some of the exhust gasses back into the engine. Its supposed to reduce emissions or some such Censored , but it mainly seems to clog your air intake up with tar and causes all sorts of problems as the valves tend to fail.

The "Blank kit" is a set of metal plates that block intakes and replace the pipework. This stops the tarring up and improves performance because the air going into the engine is as nature intended.

Pete Bell (site sponsor bellautos) sells them, and I think there are fitting instructions on his website. Its an easy job - takes about an hour. You just have to be careful not to sheer off any old bolts when removing them, and to not drop any bits into the engine while you're doing it!
