New brake pads and now a rubbing noise...?

Just a quick one (I hope!)....

I changed brake pads all around yesterday (thanks Bodsy - great bible! Bow down ) and now, when coasting at slower speeds, I get an intermittent (timed with wheel revolutions) rubbing noise.... I'm guessing the pads are not retracting properly?? Perhaps they just need to bed in?? There's no rapid drop in speed or anything like that, just the rubbing noise which stops when I apply the brake pedal.

My EPB works 100% (when I use it) and I'm sure the bearing's fine. Just need some reassurance that it's nothing serious!

Thanks!

u only changed the pads u say which leaves old discs behing and if they grooved or developed the lip that might be causing screeching before pads adjust

Thanks grzesiul - yup, I only changed the pads and the discs did have a bit of a lip - I do need to change the rear discs.....

It's not really a screech and it's not constant... Only when coasting at slow speeds and it comes and goes in time with the wheel revolutions....

been told by known guru that the best practice is to swap all the pads around same time but no need for discs unless they have gone under the safe limit

should be fine after some mileage

Well having listened to the noise a bit more closely, I'm not certain about what could be causing it.... If it was the brake pads not being properly bedded in, surely it would be making a noise all the time?? Unless the discs are so badly worn that they're a bit warped?? Is that possible??

I'm hoping it's not a bearing....???? Confused

Any other thoughts??

I get EPB making weird noises now and than but work fine apart from that and it also happens when going slow

where is the noise coming from more specific?

It's definitely from the rear axle and I'm 95% certain it's the driver's side. I must add that the discs really are pretty badly worn - I should have changed them with the pads but I ran out of time.

To me it seems like too much of a coincidence for the EPB to suddenly be making noises the day after I change the brake pads.....

I would jack that side back up and turn it by hand, & maybe somebody else apply the brakes slowly

you can distinguish which wheel noise is coming from. then you see if it is a lip causing or partly seized caliper. Razz

Pretty sure it's the rear driver's side and a lip on the disc.... (I know there is a lip on the disc). But I'll have a look as you suggest.
