New D4 owner

Hi after much consideration I’ve taken the plunge with a 2010 HSE, coming from a defender 110 which I loved despite its many shortcomings - but it’s a huge change!

It’s on 97k and got a full main dealer history, had a new engine a 25k, also had new turbo and compressor over the last few years and belts are done. I am booking in with my local indie for service And gearbox flush. Is there anything else I need to have them look at?

Also I’ve seen lots of mentions of the gap IID tools - are these a should have or just if you want to enable more functions?

I’m hoping to do some green landing in it so would be interested in any advice on appropriate mods?

Thanks in advance!

hi and welcome to the fun house Very Happy

being an HSE it should probably already have all the extras enabled such as 4x4 info, timed climate, rear camera, fairy lights for DRL etc. but have a browse round here and you will soon find all the hidden bits on yours

IID tool are very good, especially if you want to do your own maintenance and make amendments to extras etc. but if like me you know someone close by with one and don't intend to do maintenance yourself then its not essential but a generic code reader might be.

Off road mods..... plenty of options.... how far do you want to go and how deep are your pockets Laughing

Glad you got sorted with one James. Thumbs Up

For off-road stuff:
Start with ditching the 'bookshelves' and bolt on some Tree Sliders, RLD sump plate, AT tyres.
Then after that there's a RAI, Rear Ladder, Roof Rack.

Enjoy. Thumbs Up

Do you have a full size spare ? If so get a protector to avoid it being nicked. Uncle Ray of this parish does them Thumbs Up And if you don't alrerady have one a battery charger/conditioner (CTEK or similar). Useful in the winter Whistle

Thanks for the comments guys.

No got timed climate which was part of convincing the Mrs on the vehicle so iid it is!

Stupidly I’ll have to check what spare I have. Already snapped 2 bolts trying to get steps off until rain stopped play , can anyone recommend a make for rock sliders?

I’ve seen battery conditioners mentioned before - do these tend to need plugging in if parked up for a bit?

Prospered sliders are the best, but expensive.

Then there's Terafirma or Shire Fabrication.
(I run the latter, nice n sturdy with 5 outriggers, but too early to tell on the powder coat quality, tho all holding up fine as of now).
