The only thing that saves Discovery at the moment is it’s the only full size 7 seater but that might change once the 130 goes on sale, though some may be put off by the rear door.

The new FFRR has a 7 seat option - so I do believe the Disco’s days are numbered, unfortunately.

As much as it shames me, bearing in mind my views on the D5, I've specced up a D5 with all I need for £68k. There really is nothing else to meet my new needs. Mind you, it will need to be on another level to beat my XC90 in-terms of build quality, dealer service, reliability and comfort, which are superb Thumbs Up

The FFRR is really for a different market, which is just not me.

The FFRR is £48k better looking and has seats that are comfortable for all.

Fair point. Thumbs Up

I’d not have a bought a new one, but a used FFRR made sense for my needs.

I paid £52k for my 5 seater SDV8 Autobiography when it was 2.5 years old, with 20,500 miles. One reason why I’m not worried about using it as I did my Disco’s. Perhaps it’s the locking rear diff, but I think it handles muddy conditions better than the D3/4/5 I had.

I also think it looks more subtle and understated than the D5.

Lots of people have complained about the middle row seats in the D5 being uncomfortable. I've never heard anyone complaining in the same way about the seats in the L405 - and the replacement has similar seats.

The D5's middle row seats are too low to the floor and the seat base is too short and poorly angled meaning insufficient support for the thighs. There are plenty of anecdotal examples of this complaint both on here and in reviews.

You bought a D5 and you loved it. Great. Just accept that others don't like it. It's not a personal attack on you although they way you jump at anyone saying bad things about the D5 certainly feels like you see it as that.

The middle seats were an issue for my kids when trying it out when it was launched, however, the new face lift also included changes to the seats that apparanetly addresses the middle seat issue. Its one of the things we need to test before committing to buying one.

Typical of you to take this angle...I asked "how do you know?" on the basis that you might have actually made a direct comparison by sitting in both...of course though you couldn't have, could you, so it's just your assumption that £48k must be worth it just for some different seats.

My own experiences of the middle row seats after having a 69 plate D5 for c.12,000 miles were that the design was woeful. I can’t understand how it was ever thought to be acceptable by LR for a vehicle that was intended for carrying multiple passengers.

I also found access to the third row seats to be woefully bad. Unless I was doing something wrong, which is a possibility. I only used them twice.

As always, if a vehicle suits your requirements and you like it then that’s all that matters. Thumbs Up

The d5 is a fine vehicle, I know that doesn't fit here but it is.

I admit you need to spec it right and the 21 styling changes help.

Yes there are a couple of things I would have done differently, but the not space is huge, all rows are good seats, it cruises well and as long as you spec the toys like dual range it's good

I'm not entirely sure, other than the rest boot, why people don't like it, there's not a d4 feature that the d5 (3 I've had) doesn't cover... Except the tailgate perhaps

Ive Two D3s, Two D4s and Two D5s with the third arriving in March so well experienced in them all.

Yes, not as flexible for carrying load but comfier, quicker, more refined and tow better I think.

I don't care about the second row, I don't sit there. Laughing

Currently got a FFRR Autobiography from LRA and I don't see too much difference, touch comfier, but id want to see a lot more difference for the money personally

Its each to their own! Thumbs Up

I agree with you MSE.

I started with a D2 and LOVED it but it was permanently broken. Sold it after 2 years with cylinder head gasket failed (common td5 issue).

I then left LR for 8 years, and then bought an old D2 again. LOVED it!!

When the D2 was released, people hated it saying there were too many electronics it it, and it would never be any good as noone but LR would be able to repair it.

When the D3 came out... People HATED it. It was called the Ford Transit Discovery. Yet now people are singing it's praises and saying that it is the best Discovery ever maid.

Now that the D5 is here, people seem to be doing the same thing.

I have had my D5 for nearly 3 years so far, and so far it has honestly been excellent. It has not given one single major issue, and the couple of small things have only been minor and have been sorted quickly.

I have now done over 60000km with it, in all conditions, towing heavy trailers, not towing, everything. It has not skipped a beat, and is relaxed, quiet and lovely to drive.

My wife and daughter have both said that it is very comfortable.

I really don't know what people are all complaining about.

I am sure that I will be hated for posting this, but these are just my own personal opinions.
