New Front Suspension (with photos)

Well I have at least one bush off maybe ARB bushes and on inspection worn front discs , so in my typical style here's what I have decided
I have 5 days holiday at the beginning of march the wife is away so work shall begin
Here's my plan
Renew front discs and pads
Renew wheel bearings
Renew lower wishbones
Renew upper wishbones
Renew drop links
Renew arb bushes
Well in for a penny in for a pound
Maybe calipers or mite just paint them up
Going to keep this thread going with my progress and problems any advise is always welcome

The way I see it if you replace one the other one will go
Cheers henda

Go for it! Thumbs Up

I had to replace all ARB bushes on mine, used LR original bushes as replacements instead of poly. Front bushes were relatively easy to replace. Just got soaked in CRC MoS and needed some brushing to remove the rust first.. Replaced the clamps and nuts at the same time.

In case you’re thinking later on to replace the rear ARB bushes. They were in much worse condition then the ones up front. “we” had to use induction to heat the bolt/nut, let it cool, spray MoS, repeat for all four. All in all 5 1/2 hours including the first failed attempt without induction. Truly a Censored job. Replaced clamps and bolts, too.

Edit: applied copaslip so hopefully bolts/nuts won’t seize next time.

Having new bushes is worth it - ride feels like new.

I was prepared to replace the drop links (with Meyle HD) at the same time but since they were found to be in ok shape decided to wait on doing them until I need to replace wishbone bushes or something else.

You'll be needing a full 4 wheel alignment after installing that lot and a steering angle sensor recalibration too.
Fail to do these and you'll have all sorts of issues opening up a whole world of pain with suspension lowering, loss of HDC and loss of terrain response.

mark the bolts on the lower arms before removal, obviously this will help to align when you refit new arms then 4 wheel alignment soon after fitment. cant see why you need steering angle sensor changing unless you remove your steering wheel and refit it in another position?

You don't change it, you recalibrate it. You have to tell the car where straight ahead is after swapping all the components. Wink
Feel free to not bother, but you'll regret it. Wink

sorry re calibrate, this is directly behind the steering wheel, when you have the car aligned the first thing they will do is align the steering wheel straight forward assuming this is correct now it will be after, it only need adjusting if you physically remove the steering wheel.

If you are careful with bolt marking you may do ok i marked mine when i did rear arms and they were all ok, required no adjustment, but needed some other adjustment to get it perfectly in line. fortunately my steering angle sensor was fine too still within calibration Wink

Sloppy trust me, after a 4 wheel alignment on a D3, you also need to recalibrate the steering angle sensor. Wink

I will use the how to guides and my idd tool but here's the question do you go into tight tolerance mode for the alignment or stay in normal mode
Cheers Thumbs Up

Many suggest TTM is not required. Thumbs Up

the only advise I would give to you is don't use cheap pattern parts if you can afford quality parts as you will be doing the jobs again in a year or so Thumbs Up
oh also cover any bolts/nuts that you can see with handfuls of grease you will be glad later if you have used cheaper parts Laughing
 please excuse any grammer/punctuation mistakes,i'm thick,thankyou
