All being well, a turbo can be done in 6-7 hours, but better to call it a day and a half, if they have parts in stock

Does anyone has a valid explanation why turbos are failed so often and so early?
These failures are common for all TDV6 or for a specific year and beyond?

As far as I understand it's that we're being too kind to them.
I beleive mine went because I never over reved or kicked down.
Seemingly because of this I wasn't utilising the turbo to it's full extent.
It gets 'in a groove' then when you eventually do boot it, the VNT mechanism can jam.
Hence [in many instances] - warnings, black smoke, limp home mode and finally new turbo diagnosis.
Earlier threads suggest you should boot it at least once a week to get the turbo fully functioning. I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

Depends how 'North' you are in Yorks, but I travel a fair distance to Duckworths in North Lincs, highly recommended by those on the forum who use them.

Beware!!!
Who is your dealer.
My dealer recently diagnosed an issue, but it turned out to be something else.
[found out by local independant garage]
I've also come across the franchised dealer being at a loss to deal with problems yet independent LR workshop resolving it quickly - I believe that there are site sponsors who are also well thought of as an alternative to main LR dealers
What is needed is for LR to accredit specialist local independents to carry out warranty work as well as routine servicing, as that would give the main dealers a bit of competition & they might then have to sharpen up their act.

There is a software update to 'exercise' the turbo vanes to prevent them jamming. Ask your dealer. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Hhmm, interesting!
That says to me LR know they have a problem in this area! I was a normal heterosexual chap, but in these new woke awakenings I now identify as a Wardrobe.

LR are aware of the issue, hence the reason the turbos have superceded 3 or 4 times, the ECM download for the vnt mechanism, and also the technical bulletins they have released My D3 Build Thread

Is this something that has to be asked for, or after a model year is already applied from factory?

I think it is for the earlier turbos it needs to be applied for. No idea if it is part of later original software. Beast ask your dealer if there is an update. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

It is part of the original software on all post 07MY models, although, it never hurts to have the latest software uploaded (unless you are re-maped, as it could wipe it) My D3 Build Thread
