Well I have maybe sourced a spade connector to fit in the fuse box, BUT it's not coming till 10th Jan. However I think I have a temporary solution. It is a piggy back fuse. Halfords £8 so a tad expensive.

Now the fuse box rating is 15 amp, the load will be 3.5 amp, actually less as the cut off solenoid once activated drops to almost zero amps..

Load of the isolating solenoid.

Load of the winch solenoid

So I would think it will be fine.

So I have my kill cord switch. There is a very convenient hole just here.

But unfortinately it is just too high and bumps up the bonnet. The rapido is flat against the bonnet and you can see the difference with the gaps at the side

Plan z I think

Well this little fuse link looks to be just the job. All the parts of the jigsaw are in place. Looks like I need to start the nuts and bolts bit of the job.

Well its all in bits. Need to put it back together now. I am puzzling as to what to do with the big air duct on the front. Clearly it needs to come off to make some room for the winch.

I could do with some advice now if you have done this. How do you go about removing this bit on a D4

Thanks

Hi,

I was in the same position today, got at far as getting the winch and mount all bolted up but then realised how much needs to be cut away on the bumper and due to lack of time put it all back as it was. But not a wasted day. A good research day Thumbs Up

To answer your question, there are 2 screws that hold the baffle in that are a Censored to get to. The one on the drivers side is the easiest. The 2 screws (one on each side) screw from the back forwards. God knows why. Rolling Eyes Took nearly 2 hours to do that bit.

If you look up from underneath, follow the edge of the baffle up and you will see the end of the thread that passed through a metal clip. I'm sure there is a proper way to get the them but I managed to get my hand in with a small socket and get then undone. The passenger side one is very hard. I ended up undoing the 2 bolts the hold the expansion tank in place to move that just enough and get my hand in in front of that.

Once the 2 screws (you can undo with either a 8mm socket or Philips bit) are removed you can then pull the thing down and out.

Hope that helps.

Good luck. Thumbs Up

I've been looking at the cost of a new bumper just incase I screw this one up. There is a lot of cutting to do for it to fit over my winch (Superwinch Talon 9,500lb). Also not 100% sure about how the free spool is going to locate yet. It's already been rotated from the default straight up.

Well top tips from Dorian. I accessed the two screws at the top, took out the two plastic scrivets and the air ducting just came out perfectly. I unbolted the expansion tank and got the room to get a socket in, I used a uj and a special wobble type 3/4 drive extension. It still took every extension bar I had to get the reach. See pic. The string was to control the socket so I could get it in the bolt.

Trial fit for alignment

Hi, the free spool fits ok. When the bumper is on I can reach under and operate it easily. Here is the measurement from the winch mount to the top of the lever. You can maybe cross check it to your winch.

I have the handle at the 10 o'clock position
