New To The World Of D3

Hi Guy.
I bought my D3 HSE 2005/05 last October, but I am still new to this world.
I bought my D3 cheap, knowing that there was going to be issues. First issue was 22 error message which was solved with a new battery.
Then I had a health check at a local LR specialist. AND it needed loads of work.
SO, Novemebr I had all the arms, bushes, prop shaft, bearings, disk and pads all round. Which came in at a shocking £2200.
Alloy wheel refurb to grey.
Four Goodyear wrangler tyres.(Kwit Fit were cheapest)
Four Wheel tracking, its goes perfectly straight, pleasure to drive)
Upgraded Interior lights to LED
Replaced all the LR badges to black, and replacement all the lettering.
Rear parking sensor speaker replaced.
Philips LED sidelights.
Fog light bulb upgrade to LED.
Number plate LED upgrade. Not Bulb but proper unit.
Last week, I had full service, mega flush gearbox, diff, transfer, cambelts (front and back). New turbo, new downpipes upgrade (no cat). EGR valve blank.
New turbo has made huge difference, (old very noisy)
Upgraded downpipes, EGR blank has made the D3 quicker, and million times better when pulling off. Plus it makes a lovely noise. MPG has gone up. 32.5mpg on a long run up the A1. ( before it was 28mpg)

So what left, the handbrake doesn't work, it makes a terrible noise when you turn it on and then it wont release. Not sure what to do at the moment, MOT isn't due to September.
Anybody know how much it will cost & what has anyone else done about this issue.

Also, Im in two minds about having it remapped, Ive heard the pros and cons from the garage I use but wondering what other people think.

Welcome.

It is possible that the handbrake shoes or the components that hold them together have rusted and are stuck for that reason. The shoes themselves are fairly cheap, AF had a kit for ~60 eur or so. You will need a few other parts as well but it doesn’t mean that your EPB would necessarily be broken. Probably a good idea to use the search in one of the D3 forums here. Thumbs Up you’re not the first person with a screaming EPB Wink

I very recently thought that my EPB was in a bad shape but all I needed was a new left front caliper and then lubing and recalibration of the EPB. Shoes were in good shape.

Good luck.

If they are new discs in November, then I wouldn’t have thought it would be the shoes unfortunately.

If you ge5 a decent remap then they can bring it alive, go for either BAS or Alive, they really know thes3 cars.

HI. Just looked at my invoice. And I had two new rear calipers and new shoes when I had all new brakes etc.

Remap, Yes I've been told BAS & Alive are very good. I have used a garage in Lincoln, near to me and he is very good and uses a four wheel dyno to remap. But keep hearing good things are BAS & Alive.

Do you think 150,000 miles is too high for a remap.

Thanks
james

Shoes shouldn’t go to Censored in half a year...
