I think that probably has a lot to do with it. Most people adjust the headrest for comfort, not safety. By taking the adjustment away, it will always be safe.

Doesn't a difference in driver height make a difference though?

I agree that left to the user, the thing will probably not be set at the optimum height, but it would be interesting to know if the headrests in the other cars in the test adjust......

I suppose it does, but the D3 headrest is very high on me (short a**!!). I think the danger comes when you set the rest too low, and your head is forced back and over the headrest in the event of a rear end collision.

Apparently in a rear end collision, your body moves forward faster than your head; your seat needs to move forward as fast as it and the headrestraint should stop your head going backwards. It should be taller than the centre of gravity of your head (don't ask me how you find that the only way I know is to dangle an object from different points plot a line with a plumb line and where they all cross is the centre of gravity!!)

forgot to quote on the relevant part for me - i'm 6ft2 ... and my neck only hits the headrest - i can actually lean my head over the headrest.

that's why i need an adjustable one ....

i didn't have marmite ... plenty of home coooking Very Happy
