When the L R assist guy came out to look at my 09 SE this morning, which has lost drive
His first thought was complete Auto box failure. then he said it could be a stripped or broken half shaft & finally the one he wrote on the Recovery sheet was Suspected Front Diff Failure.
All I was doing was having a little play in the local pub car park.
DSC off 3rd gear command shift doing a few spins and it just lost drive and started making a sort of whirring spinning noise . no motion front or back.
Surely it should stand this sort of treatment without breaking?
Anyone had any similar issues?

Hard acceleration \ wheelspinning on full lock may cause half shaft problems 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

So would the' Transmission Overheat , slow down' message which displayed, even after it had been left for 12 hours at minus 7, be consistent with this/

Mathew, I seem to recall you had no warning, did no wheel spinning and other than stopping to contimplate which route to take, when you moved it happened, so definately NOT your driving and it did make a racket

Seem to remember a certain white disco hanging on a rope behind my car and you weren't doing anything even slightly dodgy when yours went, and it scared the poo out of me when it started rolling down the hill towards me in Park... TDV6 HSE - Light Guards - White Reflective Sticker

apart from the chalky rut which I tried to run both side of the car down rather than run one side, just lost all ability to move forward, engine would still run, gears went in, but engine just rev'd under accelaration
was'nt uncommon to get half the bongs the later d3's get so could honestly say, no message though.
ah those were the days

It did roll forward in park didn't it? I know it scared the hell out of me when it started moving I was only 20 foot in front of you at the time..... TDV6 HSE - Light Guards - White Reflective Sticker

Could be Transfer Module that ops the Terrain Responce, front of the ECU NSF Bulk Head 8)
Only way you would snap half shaft is if you were really being silly, and i am, and i have not done one yet
even if you had damaged HS you still have drive in other wheels!
if engine is running with no tranmission, either elecs or major transmission
If not that may be transfer box but unlikey, goe with electrics!!
MAY WISH TO REFINE MENTION THE SPINNING THING AT THE DEALERS
they may not see the funnysid e, if you know what i mean
ANY WAY WHO CARES !!!
YOU GOT FULL LR BUPA so they fix it! FOC !!
Good Luck / and it great sideways SOON BABY 8) 8) 8)

It also crunched when it was put in park , which would surely suggest something gearbox related?
Anyway will hopefully find out in the morning when Stratsones @ Stockton have had chance to look at it
I wasnt going to mention the spinning in the car park bit, just in case!
