So, not the best of starts! (UPDATE)

Picked up my new (to me) D4 yesterday with a massive smile on my face as I left the dealership, with dog riding shotgun.

10 miles and 15 minutes later am calling the dealership whilst stuck at the side of the road, "Gearbox Fault" displayed clearly on the dashboard and the car in limp mode! Sigh!

3 hours later am on my way home, the new D4 still with the dealership whilst they rectify the issues. They've lent me a 54 plate D3 from stock until such time as they can fix it.

To be fair to the dealership, whilst a tad ticked that this happened so soon into ownership, they were very apologetic, pretty good at getting me sorted and hopefully I'll get an extended warranty FoC as a result.

Watch this space for updates...
 Tony

2016 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 Landmark LE Auto Waitomo GreyDiscovery 4

Yes definitely not a good start.
Stick with it they are the best cars out there when running properly.
Hope the dealers look after you, could well be an easy fix.
 D4 2016 Landmark, Waitomo Grey.
D3 2005 HSE, Bonatti Grey, now sold but still comes back for servicing.
Defender 2002 Td5 Commercial, had a hard life but slowly being restored.
I only work so I can afford to repair my Land Rovers!

Cheers. Yes, having had a 300TDi and 2 TD5's I'm committed to the Landrover, just so frustrating.

It has done only 43K miles on a 59 plate but initial diagnostics suggest a problem with Comms, so think it is the electronics going awry somewhere. They will get it sorted I'm sure, and they are looking to do an auto oil change too.

Check the battery - low voltages cause all sorts of issues and can through up any number of unrelated errors which show up as comms issues on diagnostic tools.

At the moment there is not a lot I can do as it is back with the dealership.

Interestingly I read an article on here which said they had a number of electronic Comms faults thrown after a cheap bulb was put in which played havoc with the CANBus. I noticed that the MOT initially failed with a new headlamp bulb needing replacing!

Also, just before all this I had switched the headlights to Auto. I will see what they come back with, but may mention this later if they are struggling.

Welcome to the forum, Tony. Only wish your first posts (and ownership) could have been more upbeat! Hope you get sorted soon.

Nice to see another local lad on the forum too.

Thumbs Up

Thanks mate. Having had a 300TDi and 2 TD5's I am fully aware about how co-dependent LRs are on us! Smile

Funnily enough, Mr Cook from D2BC did pretty much the same thing.

So...the latest update is that they can't resolve the issue in house so are handing it on to a Landrover Dealership/Specialist. The problem is they have at least a 10 day lead time to get it in before spending time diagnosing the issue(s).

They did offer me a slightly newer HSE model instead, but it has almost twice the mileage of my chosen one. So staying with their D3 courtesy car until mine is sorted. Sigh! Crying or Very sad

Is it a franchised dealer you bought it from? If so, do they not have anything else in group stock?

Perhaps you should consider if it’s time for a full refund and look elsewhere, plenty to choose from, under the sale of goods act your well within you rights to request this, you’ve given them ample time to rectify the faults, whether they play ball is of course another matter.

It is just a second hand dealership and they did offer me something else as specified earlier. However, it wasn't what I wanted. I've also had a look around and to be honest I think this is a reasonable motor for the money providing they can fix it. Should it however prove to be "unfixable" then I will of course expect a full refund with a small measure of compensation for the inconvenience.

I'm happy at the moment that they are trying their best to resolve this so will be patient and give them time. My hand was forced to get a car because of having my rice burner written off, so the fact I have the D3 for now, means I'm mobile. If I get the extended warranty out of it too then I can live with the inconvenience for the time being.

As I'm a high mileage user, it is in their interest to get it resolved as soon as possible.
