not really a technical question: Tow bar |
|
Hello All,
I am new to the D3 scene, having come from the D2 scene, to the L322 scene, to the L320 scene, and now joining the D3 scene.
I have just bought a rather nice D3 (sadly engine is dead, but that is being sorted). I noticed that the towbar armature is there, but I don't know if/where the towbar itself is.
In the RRS, there was a space under the boot to store the towbar.
Is that the same in the D3 or is there somewhere else that I haven't found?
Thanks in advance.
Nick

Hi mate
Look in the boot there are 2 boxes at floor level on the wheel arch could be in there if it's still in the D3
Personally I wouldn't use the supplied tow hook and go for the more robust fixed tow bar
Search towball issues for reasons why
Hope this helps

It's not an armature like the L322 requires to be fitted to take a tow bar, all D3/4 (and the L320 RRS) have the socket for the tow ball as "standard fit".
A better marker for whether you car is hiding a tow bar somewhere is if it is fitted with towing electrics. 06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
Any issues with the site let me know!

I will check that tomorrow.
I only collected the car on Monday. Yesterday I was cleaning it out (it had LOADS of junk inside from the previous owners), and I then noticed that the socket for the towbar is there, and so I assumed that the towbar attachment would also be there.
I saw that the "hatch" for the electrics is there, but I didn't think to look behind it.
I will keep you posted.
If it doesn't have the electrics... Is it hard to fit those, or is it as simple as on the D2 (plugs in to a socket behind the brake light cluster)?
