Novice maintainance guide

Had a deeks about, but can't see anywhere a guide for basic maintainance checks to be done on a D3 covering the absolute must-do's.

Anyone have one - or care to post one?

Was thinking around the likes of:

MONTHLY - Tyre pressures, tread depth, oil levels, etc etc
SIX MONTHLY - Check engine not been nicked by local tea-leaves etc etc

Seriously - complete novice here - what basic checks should I be doing and when?

Personally Blue, I would check weekly the fluid levels, incl screen wash as this can lead to the fuse blowing if no water in it, and is a right git to get at. Tyre pressures speak for them selves, but remember the spare. Nearly 3tonne of D3 needing a low pressure spare is no good at all.

Monthly I would dip my head under the D3, checking for oil stains from input/output seals on transfer case and driveshafts. Whilst your there look for grease splatter from split CV boots.

Thats what I would check, and do check. But am sure more can help you and will watch to see if I can add any advice to the list

I would check the engine oil at least weekly. Especially on a new vehicle. For some reason, the D3 will use oil in its early life, and then at about 15 - 20k miles it will stop using it. There have been a few horror stories about folk running out of oil on low mileage vehicles.

Also, the dipstick is a pig to read, the plastic balls make it tricky to judge the level. Don't add too much oil, it does not take much to get from the bottom of the dipstick to the top. Add a bit at a time and let it settle for a couple of minutes before checking again.

Also, check the tailgate support struts where they attach to the body, the pivot ball that screws in can work loose on the right hand strut. If it comes away, it needs a body shop to fix it. Lift the tailgate up to take the weight off the strut to check for tightness of the fixing.
