Off to Isle of Skye on Saturday!
So, I've had the Disco for just over one week and we're all excited about our mega drive on Saturday (2 x kids, Springer Spaniel and the lovely Wife).
The Isle of Skye is just over 624 Miles according to Google, so will take a good 12+ hours.....
Any tips or advice? Don't really know the car well enough, but what would be a good balance between Motorway Speed and economy as an example - 70 is too slow, but is 80 a good balance?
(Fuel is vital, so will make sure to fill up, well before needing any, as I think I will only get 470ish miles on a full tank)

Loverly place, even better when it's not weeing down. Fill up at Fort William, after that there is reasonable amount of filling stations but they are much more pricey.

I tend to stuck to 70 and get around 30 odd ish. Just remember it weighs quite a bit and take some stopping so just enjoy the journey. It's a fair hike to Skye I was there in July. Such an amazing place.

12.5 hours is a long trip......motorway is gone after glasgow so back to normal roads...and some very nice scenery....but you need to keep your eye on the ball as lots of visitors around i guess...many foriegn perhaps lhd
we normally do f.william to malliag on the "road to the isles" 45 miles very scenic....only downside is the ferry from malliag if the weather is very rough may be cancelled...
the top half of the island is remote ....not many places for fuel or to eat....take a flask or two and a snack..just hope you dont get low cloud cus you wont see the fantastic cullin hills..
we stayed at the cullin hills hotel in june £235 per nite band b........christ........and it was full
have a good trip to the best part of the country....pity its so far away...

Thanks all for the tips, we're in the North, staying in a cottage that we had boked for £500 or so for 1 week, just a few miles South of Portree.
I know it's a long trip up, 12.5 hours was a guess, as we'll need stops for the dog, kids etc... but never been there before and fancied a week in away from it all.....we have plenty of wet weather gear as I walk the Brecon Beacons and the Medips regulary.
Getting really excited now

if your staying south of portree thats populated........the top half above portree is the remote bit in my opinion.
have you got to do it in one trip...theres more than enough lovely scenery after glasgow and plenty places to stay

The trip you are doing is what the Disco was made for.
It's a fantastic drive with magnificent scenery, been to Skye twice and last year stayed slightly North of Skye at a place called Plockton.
Great place to stop for a break for a bit is a place called Tarbet, it's on Loch Lomond, it has a medium sized carpark, a cafe, toilets, a water tap and a large grassed area for the dogs.
Keep eyes peeled for deer and large stags!
Very envious, enjoy it 8) 8) 8)

I did think of starting out on Friday eve, but we have a dog and we've not been very organised
It's an adventure!
I've told the owners we may not get there until 9ish in the evening....and SHWMBO is sharing the driving (well at least some of it!)
