Off road driving accessories
Not sure if this is the right section, if not , apologies, Moderators.
I have a need to cross about 50 yards of Peat bog in Connemara with the D3 to get to a radio mast on top of a hill. The alternative is a hike of about 1/2 of a mile up a very steep slope if carrying equipment I get totally knackered! Originally Chris T used his Argo to get us up to install the gear, but it looks possible to drive it from the other side of the hill (much less steep
My question is, is there any sort of portable, roof rack mountable "tracks" that can be laid in front of the vehicle to cross boggy terrain?
I have in mind laying down a few interlocked sections in front of each wheel,driving forward, take the bit from the back and put it round the front etc? until past the boggy obstruction

Sounds like a lot of work to save a half mile walk
But fun trying! I would not try to drive it alone though, take another vehicle and plenty of recovery gear. Waffle boards etc will sink in real boggy stuff, could be fun getting them out!2020 BMW X1 18d XDrive X-Line Auto

Ive used a collection of 8 waffle boards to do something similar. 2 for each wheel. The only drawback is that you then need to carry/store 8 waffle boards that are full of mud and weigh a ton !!
EDIT , make sure you tie some rope to each waffle board because they are a to get out of the ground when submerged and full of mud.Duncan

, check out Maxtrax web site (they also have a short vid of how they work) I've been using them for about 8 months, they are not cheap but weigh approx 4kgs, whereas decent waffle weigh in at around 15kg For fixing to the roof rack I use 2 cut down ladder brackets available from most good builders merchants cost approx £25.00. When you have finished using them just turn them over and tap against the grou: Yes know the problem well, you need something man enough for the job without breaking your backnd, this gets rid of most of the mud or sand
