NFU do as long as your not doing time trials.
Play days and green lanes covered. If you bend it yourself its the same as bending it yourself on the roads. If someone else hits you then again same as on the roads.
Most companies should be the same I would think ???
Can't see that working, on-road you're required to have insurance cover by law so if an uninsured driver hits you you can drag them through court. There's no legal requirement for cover off-road (AFAIK) so it could get very messy, part of the reason I suspect that you have to sign a disclaimer at most off-road sites so you can't try and claim off the organisersThe End

As long as you are not doing competitive motorsport like time trials apparently... Just as Simon says.
To be honest I do most of my off-roading in the Suzuki and the odd green lane in the D3. There is an argument that a green lane is a road therefore any vehicle should be covered, don't know if I'd like to test that one out though...
Does anyone know where I could buy seperate off-road insurance cover?
I would only take my vehicle off-road a few times a year, but I'd like to look into getting a seperate policy, as it is a bit risking driving a £45K car without cover.Matt

I'm interested too - although I'm only gambling with £32K! Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

You are a brave person if you rely on a greenlane being a road. I am well aware that it is a road that hasn't been tarmaced but I think it is a grey area therefore they will wriggle. If another uninsured car hits you off road and they aren't insured then your remedy is still the court for exactly the same reason as an uninsured driver on a normal road except they haven't committed an offence.DS3 TDV6 HSE - Silver with Alpaca (old one) Gone

We had a little event this weekend just gone, My club did some greenlanes around the Peak District.
One of our members had a very tidy H reg 90 soft top. To cut a long story short (which I will tell in full when I get the photos) It caught fire on the top of a greenlane near Edale.
Halfords fire extinguisers are a waste of red paint, and the thing was burning ferociously within seconds.
The end result was a melted bonnet, and completely burnt out engine bay. We towed him off the lane and the RAC recovered him.
The latest news is that the insurance (More Than) are not questioning the location of the incident. They have taken the vehicle for an examination because the gearbox was replaced the week before, and they suspect faulty components or workmanship. They think that the wiring was trapped and damaged. If this is the case then they will claim off the garage.
The fact that the car was on a green lane is of no consequence.

Fair point.
Does anyone on here actually know of anyone that has has reason to claim whilst green laning? and were there any problems? I have thought long and hard, and last Saturday is the first incident I can think of.

Ed told us a story in Wales of a 90 that had been rolled, he recovered it and the owner tried to claim off his insurance for 'recovery damage' Both Ed's insurer and the owners refused to pay out as there was evidence of substance abuse which may have contributed to the rollover in the first place.
Which suggests to me that the insurer would have paid out if that particular evidence didn't exist

Green Lanes (those that you have the right to roam on) are roads like the M40 or A38... just less looked after
Being as such insurance companies should pay out as they are public highways. Rolling or not.
NFU have no issues with this and expect 4x4 owners to roam off the tarmac and onto the bumpy muddy stuff.
