| off road routes in Loire? |
|
anyone know of any off road routes in the Loire? Nothing too wild, have the family with me, but tracks between wineries would be nice

I'm not sure you can drive Off-road in Frogshire but there are plenty of farm tracks and lanes aw wey.
Unless you can speak French going off the main roads can lead to easily getting lost. Stew,
2010 D4 gone but I really loved it

There was a set of green lane 'road books' for France floating around on Drop Box a year or so back, I'll see if I can dig them out...

If anyone is still watching this thread, having lived and done a lot of green lanes in France, there is no trespass law, so you are entitled to follow any route unless there is a barrier across the road with the sign "propertie Prive". If that is the case, turn around and respect the sign as it indicates that it private property with no right of way. Always respect the route to be driven, watch out for the local chasse (hunt) as they tend to believe they own everything as well as all rights.
There are some fantastic green lanes out there for you to enjoy, just use common sense, and remember to close any gates (read odd bits of wire and string for gates) behind you. Enjoy

thanks. looking for some gpx or descriptive routes, ideally - but I agree with the advice you give, too.....

PM me with where you want to go. I have a complete topo map for France and can try and sort out some routes for you. This can be in a GPX format so easy to load onto a gps

Although I had always thought the above was true, in searching for routes in Brittany just pulled this off another site;
French Environment ministry circularDGA /SDAJ/BDEDP n°1 of June 2005 states: "the law considers that for a track to be presumed open to motorised traffic, it must be manifestly usable by a vehicle not specially adapted for off-road driving"
It was written complaining about motorbikes believing they had the right to roam....
