Off roading in Cumbria
I took my girlfreind away on valentine's weekend to windamere, what a beautiful part of the country. Have been before only 25 yrs ago. Have booked up again though. Anyway I booked a surprise off roading for the other half, I used KANKKU from windamere. I thought about using my own D3 but being the last day and 300 miles to get home I chose to use there defender. I was really shocked by the route we took after being told my D3 would be ok for that route. I wish I had taken it now as is would have been awsome. Anyway would just like to say it was money well worth spent. The guide we had JESS was faultless and so professional, she loved her role that much it was amazing. I would like to say I we had a great time out in haurkshead Coniston going to the slate mines. The tracks were so un even with boulders and broken concrete roads. Bloody brilliant afternoon had. Would definitely recommend. Things is I can't remember where we went so I'd like to find the root for when I return in September. Does anyone know the routes they use please. Many thanks.

don't know which routes they use, but sounds like "knipe fold" just north of Hawkshead
towards "Arnside" and then "Hodge Close"

That said, I wouldn't take a shiny motor up some of them
Ones to avoid would probably be The Old Coach Road, Parkamoor and Grizedale plus Stile End because of the narrow gates. You could probably do the others with care, although Tilberthwaite has got worse recently.

Done the Old Coach Road a few times. Granted it has got worse but is still very doable in a stock D3/4. However I would always advise going with another vehicle.

Thankyou for the details people I will save and print them off for September. By the way my tyres will need replacing by then so if you have some good advice for tyres 255/55/19. 80% road 20% muddy tracks when shooting and green landing. My dad has just had coopers put on his D40 navara they look great but to early to tell. And he goes all over fields through woods e.t.c. many thanks

I booked these for half day & took my D2 I had at the time, I had standard road tyres on & was told should be fine, I was amazed at how it coped over rocks etc, however I did suffer a few scars - bent towbar, a little damage to one of my side steps & a cracked front bumper, it was worth it! I don't think I'd like to suffer the same on my D3 though,

LOL you might want to avoid it for a while. It has got even worse since the floods. Now just about drivable in modded Discos and Defenders with waffle boards Dean Spencer the GLASS rep nearly rolled his Disco the other week. I have seen some pics I will try to find

I was up there with the wife for a couple of days, I thought about taking her on the OCR, but went and had a flight with my quad instead, sounds like a good job I did.. lol. It was absolutely crystal clear today and a great day for flying with no wind.

That may have been then, we were on the old coach road yesterday and it was very, very severely eroded and the gulley is a whole lot wider, you would't be straddling it. If we were closer to home and maybe somewhere you could get to for a decent recovery we may have attempted it, but sense prevailed and decided not to go through, that was in modded defenders by the way, I definitely wouldn't take a D3/4 down there now.Joined the BMWX5 45e group
