Oh no1 I can't be that unlucky can I??? Engine gone???
Ticking noise from the engine, not always there. Happens randomly, doesn't increase with revs. I thought maybe viscus fan or something.
Runs sweet as a nut and sounds fine, just randomly makes this tick.
Im just uploading a video to you tube, its sounds suspisciosly like one I heard on here a few weeks back that turned out to be a dud engine.

Problem is, its only there randomly, so it did it when i videoed it, but then stiopped, went to my mums, fine, started and stopped a few times, then back home all fine. Washed it, all fine, took for a blast up the road, haven't been able to replicate it again.
It did it once before about 4 weeks ago I noticed it.

Sounds like a tensioner to me. If you shine a torch down onto the tensioner you may be lucky and see it jumping rythmically.

Cant really tell but the tensioner seems to be moving a bit, no noise at the mo.
If it was big end bearings how long would it last? It happened 4 weeks ago or more last time, so i would assume it would have gone bang by now.

It’s so intermittent it takes me by suppose. I heard it today so I jumped out and took the video. As you can hear it fades in and out. Then disappears all together for another month.
I say it doesn’t increase with speed, but I haven’t properly tested it.

That is also the viscous fan, but when I looked at the car, there was another low down, much deeper knock from the bottom end that can't really be heard in the videoMy D3 Build Thread

DM, can it be left like that until I get it serviced? What actually makes the ticking, is there a clutch in there?
Many thanks.

Unplug the fan, the noise will stop from memory.
May need the fan/Aux belt taken off, but the noise is from the clutch on the fan hubMy D3 Build Thread
