Oil Pump - To change or not to change, that is the question!

Hey folks.

I have a 55plate 2.7 on its original engine.

Its running at 125k, and due for its belts changing next year for second time.

I'm reading various things relating to the oil pump cracking issue.

My question.

Is it just 07 onwards models who have the issue, and are the originals 05/06 era good to go?

Just wondering if I need oil pump changing when belts done.

Cheers all.

Find out if the one fitted is made of swiss cheese and if so get it replaced at the same time as the belts

Old style

New style

Welcome SteveP108.

No question - change the oil pump.

The engine will benefit from a new pump's better efficiency & you will sleep better.

Martin, you are, of course, correct.

But if I had a car with 125k on the clock I would change the oil pump regardless.

Oil pump

I had my belts changed by Flack last week.

Mine is an '06 manual and we ordered an oil pump as a precaution in case I had the dodgy version - good move because it did..................

And here's my chance to say a big 'thank you' to Mick, great job Thumbs Up

Within the years from 2004 to 2009 you can only check by removing the cam belt cover, I have had early 2009 models with the dodgy pumps fitted, some MY2008 did have the new style pump fitted from new, but not all.

It was thought at first that the MY2004 to MY2006 models were ok, but this has proved not to be the case.

Flack Thumbs Up
