OK, the 20" VSpoke (supercharged) question

Ok, so sort of been here before. I had put 20" VSpokes on my baby, but with frankly crap 275/45x20 tyres (brand new Nexen Roadian HPs). Something wasnt right, both in the way they looked (I was hoping for better), and the ride now felt nervous, so off they came, back onto my 19" RRS's with 255/55 Scorpions. But the 20" bug was still there.

And, I wasnt sure that a 295/45x20 tyre would be OK, given there wasn't much clearance with the 275's (and have even advised folks not to go with 295's on the VSpokes, so appologies start here)

So what have I done, only stuck a set of VSpokes with 295/45x20 Grabber UHP's on:

Looks much better, the tyre fill the arches now. Havnt been for a motorway blast yet to see whats its like, but with tyres weight rated at 114, I'm expecting a slightly stiffer ride (stronger sidewall?).

Great tread pattern on the grabbers (should have listen to you RonP Bow down ) Never had this much rubber on before Shocked .

Grabbers from Ron's tyre mate are just over £100 each, so cheaper than goodyear or pirelli 255/55x19's

Looks good Al
Thumbs Up
I knew it was only a matter of time before you'd come round Wink

How is the clearance on the uprights?

Lets know what you think of the rubber after a few miles.

He reports in the Tong thread.

Ron - clearance looks about the same as on the 19's:

I cant get my finger between the wheel and the upright, but I couldnt before either.

Rob, tread depth on the Grabbers isnt far off an MTR, much greater than the scorpions new, so I recon these might be quite decent off road. Off roading for me is slippy wet grass (read teflon) with the 'van on the back, so I hope they're OK.

Clearance looks fine Thumbs Up

Just be aware that your speedo will now read bang on.
Normally at 73mph you'd be doing an actual 70mph
Now 73mph is 73mph!
This will also give you a different MPG average on the trip computer.
Think it will now be lower?
Yet to do the equation between the 3mph speedo diff v the lowered fuel reading.

Think it might go like this:
3mph less is 4% of 73mph
Therefore if you were getting around 27mpg, this will now read [less 4%] 26mpg.
That is roughly what I was/and am now getting.

Have I done this calculation correctly?

dont know Ron, I'll take your word for it Thumbs Up

What tread depth were your tyres when new, as I brought these as used, but they've got between 8 and 9mm of tread, so I'd say "as new".

Sorry don't know what the depth was at new.
But 8/9mm sounds new enough.
I'd suggest they'd be about 10mm when new!

 Cheers
