One for the suspension gurus, harsh suspension with a twist

Been having issues for a while now with the car feeling like I’m in access or even worse on the bump stops, it’s got that bad the wife’s sq3 is more comfortable on rough surfaces 😳, if I go over rumble strips it would loosen fillings it’s that bad, everything on the suspension replaced over the past two years inc all steering components and recent new cross climate tyres, its got to the point where I hate driving as it’s shaking the inside of the car to bits, just had a Hunter alignment after new rear toe links and they checked all bushes looked good.

Here is the twist I mainly do short trips but I have just gone to the gaff in north wales to get it ready for the season pulling my big iffor Williams box trailer, on getting hone I noticed a stretch of road that would rattle my car was quite smooth not perfect but much smoother than normal so I drove to a road that has tumble strips and it was the same muchvsmoother than normal, from this I’m assuming that due to the mileages done something has warmed up and become less stiff any ideas ?

What is the daily routine for this vehicle? ie Does it sit parked up a lot, is it a short journey pony, or is it worked to death?

Sits all night drives exactly 1 mile then sits there all day then drives 1mile home two days then the other three probably gets a 30 mile trip

When we had 20 deg in feb it was still rock hard but today was a lot smoother over rumble strips after 3 hours driving I was wondering if it’s the shock absorbers as the air bags and shocks are replaced a few years ago and they still look in good order but I can tell if the shocks are ok

It sounds like lack of use might be playing a part in the shock absorber valves. Perhaps a run off road or across a solid field might get her juices flowing again. Question

Stupid thing is the drive to the farm is seriously pot holed and it shakes the car to bits at sub 10mph give it the beans and it’s much smoother

Hi

Would it help to press the DSC button when off road so it opens the crosslink valves

Oh well that’s one test done then Laughing

Have u looked on ur iid to see what the compressor pressure is running at

Heights are all ok in normal height

What’s ur tyre pressure at plse

Possibly the reservoir valve intermittently sticking open ??? , at least with the iid live data u can see if the valve blocks are opening and closing

Also the cross link isn’t sticking open

Yep , clutching at straws Rolling with laughter

Plugged the iid in today and had the front and rear crosslink valves showing live data, they never once cut in at any speed including driving over big humps down the farm at crawling speed, but as soon as I put it in low range and drove over the same jumps 100% open is this correct I was under the impression they opened at low speeds in high range as well

Sounds like you have a similar ride comfort to me except mine gets worse the more you drive it. I don’t think my issue is age or mileage 2014 and 50k. My problem started after towing a twin axle caravan

Hi

I believe that when u disable the DSC via the button on the dashboard , the front / rear valve blocks will open so the disco will then act like having a live beam axle

When the DSC is active the solonoids will close into normal operation

http://media.disco3.co.uk/gallery/albums/u...iption.pdf

This is how I’ve led to believe they work but of course know there are more knowledgeable people here

Corner Valves

The corner valves control the flow of air into and out of the individual air springs.
When the solenoid is de-energized, the corner valves are held in a closed position by internal springs.

When the solenoid is energized, the valve armature moves and allows air flow into or out of the air spring.

Cross Link Valves
The cross link valves provides a connection between the two air springs on the same axle.

Reservoir Valve Block Reservoir Valve Block

When de-energized, the cross link valve prevents air passing from one air spring to another.
When the solenoid is energized, the valve spool moves and allows air to pass from one air spring to the other.

This increases wheel articulation and improves ride comfort at low vehicle speeds.
